It's Erzberg weekend!!!
« on: June 08, 2007, 11:06:19 am »
Hi guys & girls

It's Erzberg weekend this weekend.  I'm holding thumbs for Darryl Curtis for a good result.

I see Simon Kirssi won the Koning Klasse with his BMW HP2, 4 sec ahead of David Knight on his KTM 950 Super Enduro.

The real racing will start over the weekend.  I see that BMW entered some 450's. Will be interesting to see their progress.

For more detail / info: www.erzbergrodeo.at

Enjoy...

Eendag as ek groot is...

Yes, looks like this time everything went smooth for Simo. He wasn't lucky last previous 2 years, both times he finished 2nd by doing mistakes.

And it's surprising to see how KTM didn't kicked him off with the whole armada of superstars!!!

Knight, Despres, Coma, Sala, M├?┬╝ller etc. Erzberg is a home game for KTM, basically competing in their own backyard with the best know-how.

Results:
1. Simo Kirssi, Finland, BMW HP2, 9:02.93
2. David Knight, Britain, KTM 950SE, 9:06.80
3. Werner M├?┬╝ller, Austria, KTM 950SE, 9:14.45
4. Giovanni Sala, Italy, KTM 950SE, 9:21.27
5. Marc Coma, Spain, KTM 950SE, 9:29.50
...

Still no-one beat the 9 minute mark because of very hot, slippery and dusty conditions.

Let's see how the Prologs go for 2 cylinders (my absolute fav class!).

I have my doubts about the BMWs 450 tho. It seems to be still too much of a prototype with ironing out needed(?)

I think the HP2 team mechanics disconnected all the brakes on the HP2. The rider has a moerava phobia of falling and managed to get to the finish line being a huge downhill without dropping the bike and to his complete amazement came in first
When in doubt...grab throttle!!!

Let HP2's win that.

The real race is on sunday.

In the mean time our SA boys are showing them how to party !
We sent our A team for that, Darryl Curtis and Gray Dick.

Darryl Sliding in for the win!

Darryl - Patriotic

Shark if you want to joint next year we devised a plan to ride without all the financial burden of getting there's and so forth.

Go with all your gear, helmet boots the lot. On the Sunday morning go stand on the first heavy climb up the wall, there's going to be so much confusion and chaos, some oke's are going to fall and give up, pretend you help him with his bike, then just grab and go as fast as you can. :D

I promise you he is not going to try and run after you.

Jeeeez I really want to go see this

Not sure if this is the final result. Simo is first on the HP2.

Interesting Peiffer is 5 on the new 450BMW

Only 19 made it the end.

The result carry on further down as people were time barred at the various check points.

Here we find Gray even though they have him down as Gerry!

Checkpoint 13
29 Gerry Dick RSA 18KTM 300 EXC

So 29th position and his start position was 18th after the prologue.
He is better at the fast open stuff, this is why he wins the desert race each year.
Well done for 2 SA boys in the top 30.

Well done Gray on your first Erzberg!

Stunning pic, wonder what the lense looked like after the pic was taken.

Shark, you mention a desert race....is that the this weekend in Botswana. There is a 1000km desert race starting/finishing here in Gaborone. Hope to get some pics of the race. I rode one section of the course on Sunday last week. Pics in my ride report.

Like Mich sayed: it's the view from KTM 950SEs on Erzberg high-speed track ;D

Half a sec later the distance even increased:  ;D

Additional jet-propulstion (with rocks and dust) created by 115Nm@5500 rpm of torque boosted the performance a bit too  >:D

Only 19 made it the end.

Organizers changed it now. Because of the event was aborted "pre-maturely" because of heavy thunder rains, they included chepoint 15 into the final results too.

20:  Klaus Martinjak, Austria, GasGas
21: Justin Wilson, England, KTM
22: Roland Sailer, Austria, KTM

So 22 "finished", if you may call it so.

Just for info, Gray was back in Southern Africa after just missing out a full finish at Erzberg (29th is bloody awesome) He stamped his dominance of the desert on the Toyota Desert 1000 yet again. winning it in style.
