2001 - 640 ADV Trip Computer battery replacement
« on: September 06, 2011, 06:00:45 pm »
Who can help on how to replace the memory battery on the trip-meter PC board of my 2001 640. Battery is mounted in a metal holder (that needs to be de-solderded to remove the batt) and the batt is siliconed to the PC board. If the batt is removed will the trip-meter memory be reset??

Hi Slippers

That would be the Tourech Tripmaster?  After many discussions, KTM SA and Touratech SA (R 7000) I shipped the unit to Toutatech Germany.

My problems were
Speedo reading double the actual speed
Battery defective thus lost trip data after a week of not riding.

What they did.
Updated software
Replace battery

Total cost excl shipping 64euro

Well worth it.

There is also a very detailed thread on ADV rider about this. Lots of photos.

You could print that thread out and take it to an auto electrician locally  ;)

R20 to solve the problem.............purchased a 2 pin - 3V rechargeable PC board mount batt from the local electronics supply store. De-solderded the original 3 pin batt off the board as per the AVRider forum thread (pics attached), and re-solderded the new batt to the board....You only need to connect the + batt pin to one of the positive connections on the board (there are 2 positive pins on the original batt)

DIY glue gun used to secure all the pieces back to the board. Whole job took less than 30 min.

Tripmaster back to new.......plus I cleaned the dust from inside the top cover
