What conversion warrants the single disk in the front? and then, I see some of the 800's have crash bars, but none of the rally bikes (Amageza, Dakar etc...) have crash bars, is it due to weight or what?

If they can do a single disc on a 950SE then they can surely change to single disc on the 800. I suppose there is more to it than just removing one brake and disc. Probably a bigger/stronger replacement.

Crash bars are there to protect what is underneath it (now I stated the obvious) but in some cases what is underneath is strong enough or the risk is low enough. Think it was one of the above bikes where the side panels was cheap reproduced panels and the radiator had protection braces or something to that effect.
