Being the Western Cape Distributors for a number of premium motorcycle and outdoor action/lifestyle brands, we've been very busy supporting the local Western Cape riding communities.
Other than supporting the Junior Offroad boys at Montagu, we were at Barrydale on the 27th August... Below is a brief review and some pictures from days fun & games.
Witnessing the brave challengers of the Barrydale Roof
After wondering whether we were going to see a good turnout for the Barrydale Enduro 2011, the promise of an interesting new route and weather-effected obstacles, brought out all the usual hooligans ...and some new faces too (this was the first enduro of 5 hapless riders).
The race-staging area was on the awesome Klipbok 4x4 grounds, about 15km south of Barrydale, and 1km for the Karoo Saloon... Which made for a long trip home after the event.
Pits were spread out next to a flowering orchard.
While the starting pointing was across the dam... Making for an interesting view.
The start began a little late, since the recent rain and wind had made short work of the markings along a section of the route.
The XT-946 and the C-18s were a popular choice for the day. Which was fortunate, since the route delivered lots of rocks and water.
Garth did the briefing to the patient (and somewhat nervous) crowd.
Enjoying the support of family & ‘friends’.
Just before the flag drops... Some were clearly more ‘in the zone’ than others.
...And then the wait was over.
Around the dam and into the mountains...
The riders disappeared into specks against the stark mountain face. They would only be seen again to enter the pits area after each lap. Well... They don’t call this the Barrydale Roof for nothing.
The psycho-organisers had built an interesting enduro-cross section... Complete with picnic area for spectators... Coming straight out of the pits.
This made for much entertainment... While sipping on a cold one.
Some did real well... But not all.

The mud-swimming by some riders proved to be inspiration for a future generation of riders.
Well done to Brett Lewis from Rockgarden Offroad, for taking the honours. Riding like a demon, I believe he was the only rider to complete 4 full laps.
(...Using the impressive Mitas XT-964 race tyre)
Thank you to the organisers and the land owners who did an great job in putting together one of this season’s awesome events. Thanks Garth and his tireless team.
