Hmm looking forward to this. How many days is it typically and what is the mileage per day to be expected, liasson distances and typical costs?

Al would you be able to give me some tips on bike import?

Ah sillly question :dontknow: ...this isnt an enduro or a trial, should it be under the general section?

Its Normally 5 days in length plus the prologue. Genereally they start Scrutineering on the Thursday and Friday and Saturday is the Prologue. Racing Sunday to Thursday. The Challenge is Roughly 2500 Km in Length so the average day would be about 500Km including liason`s.

The Bivouac is near the Qasr Al Sarab Hotel and they give Excellent rates to all entrants for the week that the event Runs. If memory Serves me correctly the Cost for the week is around $1000 for the awesome resort. Skaaiidawg can confrim as he stayed there. Me personally will be there to ride so i will tent it out in the Bivouac.

Importing is pretty easy as the organisers will help you get your goods through. We will have to chat to them as soon as they come on line. Where is your bike now? Still in the US?

As for your question i figured that an Enduro is form of a race and hence me posting here. there has been no complaints till now and if the mods want to move it they can.

Thanks for the info Al :thumright: What is your plan for support? - Sorry for all the questions.

I'm almost certainly going to be doing this event,

John: You may be right, rentals is probably the way to go. Apart from the peace of mind, that way maybe I can get my WR to RSA for the Amageza at the end of April.

John, There are always rental bikes Around. KTM had rentals last year. Nothing fancy but they were there. Honda and Yamaha were no existant last year. Probably the down turn.

Hi Kenesis

I contacted some of the contacts you gave me last year. I looked at getting the KTM rental. Taking my bike there and back is gonna be R 25 000 minimum and that is not worth it.

Please keep us updated on the race info as the website was super slow last year.

Fule range is 250km if I rememeber so 23 liters minimum for a race bike.

Hi Neil my plan for Support is to use Sean Gaugain and gecko for the Support. Last year all my prep was to be done Solo. This is all good and well as long as things dont go terribly wrong.

Using their support they have a team at the Start, So if you pic up a puncture on the liason stage one can change a wheel out. They will be at the refuel point and check the bike out there. Then when you get into the bivouac they will service the bike ( Oil Change, Clean airfilter Set Chain, Clean controls and repair any Damages incurred during the day. Luckily they carry spares mainly Honda so they can get you to the end of the rally. parts and tires are normally not included in their package. I will chat to  Sean and try and find out what their support package is going to cost for the next Challenge.

Dont worry about the questions. The more of us that take part the better me thinks! Just Remember one day i may decide to do a rally your end of the world and then i may be knocking on your door.

Hey John.

I`ll Chat to Tim trenker and i will try and find out what his intentions are for the next Challenge. Sadly every one was fast asleep around the challenge last year and hopefully it will be better this time around.I will try and find out who is running the next years event so as to get you guys better information.

As a back up you should be able to get your bike here and returned quite cheaply. It just depends on how you ship it. Emirates Sky Cargo had a Special on for 250kg of cargo. Failing that you could look into The event shipper. maybe they can help you?

Thx Kenesis

I will ride a Honda if they have rentals, or bring my bike if the costs even out. I just want to do a event before June.  If we can get estimates from Gecko it will be great.

Team Wilddog Racing sounds AWESOME! and T-Shirt thing is a bloody good idea! Lets do it!

Thinking about racing, it may make more sense for me to hire as well for the DC if availible. Less hassle.

I would be keen to rent. Well, I'd have no choice my 950 is all I have. That and a montainbike!

Can someone give info on costs or point me in a direction.

Team Wilddog sounds cool.

Hehe I see the bug has bitten well and hard after that Amageza training run :thumleft: Looks like JOhn you and myself are all going rental at the moment apart from Kenesis. Al, I hope you have a place big enough for us to crash before the event!

Let me put out some feelers and see if we can get something from Red Rose/ AN Other racing.

Ok boys, potential good news, I took some SA mates for a ride in the desert today and had a chat with my mate James West, seems he has 2 more bikes to rent for the challenge if you gents are still interested.

I asked him to sort out the financials and to let me know how much!

PM me your email addresses so that I can forward them to James!

atkinse immigrated to Dubai last month. Drop him a PM if you have any further questions.,

He says one can rent a bike from KTM and ride along to spectate.  :thumleft:

I am waiting for him to send me details. It sounds as though KTM have no problem in making bikes available, so surely one could source a bike to race from them?

Nice that one will stay in the same spot every night, so one can view lots  :3some:
