I have had quite a hectic week.

So i woke up today feeling a little stressed. Luckily my Daughter decided to join me to documentation/registration this morning. It was nice to have her along for company! We woke at around 7 and by 8 when we got into the car it was already 31 Deg. This is a sign of things to come! It  was 39 Deg when we returned to Dubai at 11am.

We had an uneventful drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi`s Yas Island track. When we got there we were 10th in the que  which was rather nice for us but then we had Tim Trenker from UAE KTM who was registering for 10 people, I can only assume he was doing Marc Coma`s Registration.

I met some lovelly people today but decided not to hang around so that i could get home to fit the GPS, Sentinel and Irritrac.

Some pics from today!

Thanks for the post Kensis!

Wooohooo!!

Take a deep breath, all this prep can make things tense, but soon enough you will be riding and then you'll be loving it!

Its just another out ride in the desert.  ;)

All the best for your scrutineering tomorrow.

If possible it would be great to see how you did the connections.

Good day guys.

Had an interesting and very stress full at moments, drive from Dubai to Yas circuit at 8am and the weather is much better today! Not much wind and 4 deg cooler than yesterday.

I was shorting one antennae for the gps which I got from Sean. Wired it in chop chop and was sitting around twiddling my thumbs when it. Dawns n me we are supposed to have the Challenge sponsors on our bikes. So I entrust my 13 year old to cut the stickers up and we got to some plakking,

I found the ERTF And TDCom guys very nice! The one Frenchy didn't say much but he went ballistic with cable ties!

Here is a pick of the ERTF lady doing final checks and entering my race number into my GPS.

So then it was off to scrutineering. First came the sound level test

I was not happy as I had to stand by while some guy wrings the neck out of my bike! At least my bike was all good at 109.5dB

Next it was in to check the brakes rims, tires and lights etc. Here we had Hennie a Saffer who is a nice guy!

After this the went through all my Gear, boots, chest protector and torch, space blanket, compass(the scrutineer was chirpy about my Xmas cracker compass to which I replied " it points to north, what more do you want?" and then silence!

We then it onto my Helmet. I have a one year old Shoei VFX helmet that has a Snell 2005 rating and according to their rule book is unacceptable. It must have Snell 2010. He wasn't even going to entertain the thought! I must go and find a new helmet.  Sounds much easier than what it actually is as there is no bike shops in Abu Dhabi. I called all the shops in Dubai and nothing was looking good at all. big time stress.

So it turns out there is about 10 of us with the same problem. I am told to report back to them later with my new helmet. So then I have to seal the motor to the frame.

So then the bike is complete and off I go to stand back at Gecko and try and be calm and Sean tells me to chill out. He goes running back and forth  and finally I am summonsed to bring my helmet to the scrutineers again. All I could make out of the goings on is that in one book it is not acceptable but in the next book (the orange one?) it is acceptable. So all was signed sealed and delivered.

All good to go!

Some General pics

So now I am off to our hotel pool to have an ice cold one and a good swim! Time to relax and enjoy myself!

I am a lucky guy! I AM GOING TO SPEND 6 DAYS ON MY BIKE!

Special thanks to my Family and freinds specially Sean!

Fantastic!!!! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

You've just completed the most stressful part of the rally. I loved the chirp "It points north, what more do you want??"  :laughing4: :imaposer:  Zese French can be so ridiculous - there is always something. If it was not your compass, it would have been your mirror.

You're looking great, bud, shed soem serious pounds there against earlier pics.  :thumleft:

All the best for tomorrow and ride safe.

I wonder how the prologue went... Looks Like Alan is ranked 40th/73, having done his 2km in 2:33, 31 seconds behind the leader.

Good evening guys! Had my good start to the rally today. I didnt sleep well last night and honestly crapping myself a bit today!

There was quite the spectacle today with the KTM's and husky's. Honestly in real poor for if you ask me. The KTM guys had some one with a stop watch telling them when to finish! All so that they could be at the back of the pack.

So as the joke goes, I beat some of the worlds best riders! Albeit it was only in 2km.

Some pics from the super special

Photos may become scarce as my 13 year old photographer is heading home tomorrow!

I'll see what I can do!

Search here for bike #50:

http://vulcain.iritrack.net/tdcom/eviewer/abu12/

Alan is moving at 70kph. Hard to tell what kind of position (due to staged starting), but he is moving which is a good thing.

Looks like the last 20 odd miles of the day will be hard, just check out the terrain!

Hey guys!

Lots of carnage today. I am not sure where I ended up. I stopped to help 4 riders  through out the day and had 40 odd km with a tail wind which absolutely nothing for the cooling so I lost about 50 min when I stopped to let the bike cool down!

All in all a good ride. I fell once and head butted a dune! It was then that I decided to take it easy and all I can say is that I am smiling right now!

I am off to hydrate, talking of hydration today I have so far drank 11 litres of water and had one very little pee!

Chat to you all soon.................
