Sorry Michnus, I didn't mean to steal your poll... I'm still a newbie.
But your poll is a year old, some mags have actually evolved in some way. eg. Top Bike. So it will be interesting to see if there are any changes in opinion from last year.

In your poll, I see Bike SA rating quite high. Is it still the case today?

I can't stand Bike SA.

3 pages of interesting stuff the rest adverts or advertorials. How often have I been caught buying the mag because the front page gave me the impression that I would be reading something about the bike on the front page.

I get the impression that the magazine is only there to support the lifestyles of the employees and shareholders of the mag.

It is not a bike magazine; it is a bike shop directory. They should be an addendum to the Yellow pages.
I wonder where that gravel road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. (Apologies to Mr Frost)

Interesting differences from Michnus earlier poll done on 27 June 2006.

Michnus poll: (38 participants)
  • Bike sa : 20.5%
  • Top Bike : 10.3%
  • Two Wheels : 30.8%
  • Superbike : 2.6%
  • Biker Life style : 0%
  • Enduro World : 35.9%

Jabu69 poll: (38 participants)
  • Bike sa : 2.6%
  • Top Bike : 44.7%
  • Two Wheels : 23.7%
  • Superbike : 0%
  • Biker Life style : 2.6%
  • Enduro World : 13.2%
And 13.2% who don't read mags.

Unfortunately, I think there are not enough participants to make this poll quite relevant at this stage.
But we can say that Bike sa is loosing it, while Top Bike is becoming the best read.

See this thread for the least favorite mags: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=8028.0

I'm surprised to see that Superbike is still at 0%. It's not my favorite mag, but it is still a high quality one. Ok, not too South African though. But they getting there.

Not into the bike mags too much, I like the classics. Bought myself two 'Classic Bike Guides - UK' mags at paperweight and its great full of BSA's, Nortons, Royal enfields etc. Beautiful bikes!

My 2c - Since the launch of the Top Bike Mag in SA a clear decline in the initial quality of the articles can be noticed.  Most of the articles currently found in the TB seems to be copied and modified from European mags to suit SA.  But it is still the best of the other poor quality around.

BL has changed a lot, no more porno, and they are featuring a DS article in every edition now, latest was a guy that is going to do EVERY single border post in SA, there are over 50 of them.
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

TopBike's August edition will be completely Adventure and Dual Sport orientated.
The editor aims to have less and less foreign input with each passing issue. But it should be noted that BIKE magazine (TopBikes sister mag) is one of the most influential journals in Britain and it's also worth hearing what they have to say
