Birthday Run 25 March
« on: March 27, 2006, 12:42:59 pm »
Thanks for joining to the following: 8)

Funacide, Kiler, Willem, The Dude, Jaen, Piet

We had a great run except for the part where I was leading. We did more tar than dirt!  Sorry guys but I?m not so good on direction but very good on follow the leader!

Not very challenging route but the last part from Cullinan back to Pretoria was lekker.

Some pics.

Meeting place at Hans Strydom.

Jaen. 1150 GS.

Piet 650GS and Willem KLR650

Funacide

Discussing JM?s lack of direction!

Halfway pitstop Cullinan

Piet not looking too ?lus? for the beers! He downed his first one before I finished pouring mine!

Clockwise: Jaen, The Dude, Piet, Fun, Kiler, Willem.

On the way again.

Most funny moment? At the first pitstop in Cullinan, Funacide and me was going on about how the rain up here must stop because we are ?gatvol? for mud. :x  :?  Funacide took the lead from Cullian and promptly led us to this! I thought it very ironic and funny!

Team coming through.

Funacide showing off. 8)  :P

This time a bit more modest.

Discussing the mud.

Kiler?s ride for the day. I like it!

On the way to Pretoria. Down at the bottom was a nice bump/ramp and I got airborne with both wheels for a few meters!  First time and it felt sooo good! :P

Second pitstop and more serious bike talk and some shite as well.

The two Capies. Absolutely fabolous two okes! 8)

My baby. Once again you were awesome! :D

All in all a great trip with lots of getting-to-know each other. Thanks for joining. Will ride with you okes anytime again. The Capies are A OK with Kiler?s knowledge on bikes and riding totally awesome!

Highly unlikely, unfortunately. Leaving on the 7th for two weeks on the Desert Run so must spend the last weekend with the family. But, one never knows!

So who's birthday is it next in Cape Town?

Cool pics, and nice to see Willem again, even though it's only a pic
Has the KLR been ridden in yet?

Hein, an honest opinion on the different rides.

Hein, an honest opinion on the different rides.

The long or short version???

And remember its not polite to crit a loan bike

Thanx for the ride, chat and hospitality guys - awesome okes the Valie bunch.  Apart from their smell, nice guys

Thanx for the ride Chris, not often you'll find a guy offering you a bike to ride with, then when you pitch-up at his place offering you to choose between 4!!!

Dakar vs KLR ??

Much the same type of bike.  Dakar have about 15% more umph, generating it at a bit higher rpms (say from 3000), but keep on delivering it till 7000rpm (where-as the KLR - not have much above 6000, but having a bit more low down between 2 and 3k rpm).  Generally the Dak got better suspension that a stock KLR.  It rides a bit more 'big bike' like - ie steers like a road bike where-as the KLR steers like a MX bike (lighter at slow speeds).  I didn't like the surging of the Dak at slow revs - it may dissapoint on very slow technical stuff, but I did like the fact that it can easily lift its front wheel in second gear (sorry Chris, but I needed to find out   ) - would like to try this gentle lift at the coast

I'll stick to my original opinion that the KLR and Dak are much the same type of bike, the Dak more refined but heavier, the KLR lighter but more plaasbike.  Depending on the depth of your pockets - will not go wrong with either!!

Thanx again for a nice ride guys and happy birthday J-man

Hein

hiack on< the Dakar defiantely DOESNT dissapoint in very technical slow speed stuff>

I must say that the Dakar was FANTASTIC that I rode.

Great bike

except for JM's bike, it sucks, cos he thinks the KTM is ugly. Which it is. But only because JM is so moersa scared of it  :P

My bike is going on a 5000km DS trip next week! :P  Where's your fugly thing (the bike) gonna be? Parked at home with you pretending to play with imaginary wimmin in Knysna?

And you are right, of course. At my current skills level, that black beast would only bring harm to my person.

You in on the 1st run? You can practice doing harm on the GSV if you want?

No.  Had my fun last weekend and with me being away for the best part of two weeks, I would think it very unwise to even suggest the idea at home. Might as well just keep on going from Buffelspoort straight to Kuruman if I did!  But there's always a outside chance, so I'll keep on hoping.
