Maps are crap. Especially the so called 4 x 4 ones available at AA and stationers (though I can''t comment on Map Studio). Best I found was on the official lesotho tourism website (Which seems down at the moment). Google maps only has major roads marked (Though some are pretty minor in our terms).

Distances are academic as the terrain is so mountainous that even on a good tar road you can end up only average 35km/h.

Love the report !

On a side-note : Has anyone ever figured out what the stone-thowing is about ? Or are they just bored ?

The road from Sani to katse dam pass Thaba-Teska will take a good 11 hours.

Why so long ... are you taking a long scenic route? When I check on the gps it's only about 300 kms if you take direct route ... what am I missing?

Lekker Report, must admit though my favourite part was not the actual ride, but that you went and picked up you girls from aftercare and took them to the Spur directly after getting home :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:
I like your priorities, good man :thumleft:
I would still like to do this trip at some point, maybe early in 2012.
On a side note, blooming hell R101.00 for THAT breakfast? I won't be stopping at the Oxbow unless I have to. One of the other WD's had to stop there due to Cold & Weather, overnight R720pp :patch:

Thanks for the RR Fegen

I am going to do Lesotho in December, also solo. Havent got eact dates yet ,but I have December off from work.
Agree with the solo riding, I love it and have experienced similar stress you did.
Will be comming from Cape Town side and head North though so I will see what the best route will be, I will definately sleep in Lesotho somewhere one night.

Yip 400 odd. DOC KLR played with my carb and in town i normally switch to reserve between 375 and 400. Im not that much of a speedster but i do tend to be heavy on accelaration. Take your bike to Doc.

I personally dislike oxbow lodge...why? Their prices dont match the quality of their rooms. The feel of the room is that of a Backpackers...at a price of 4 star. Sucks ...!

The know they have no competition...that's the problem.

Well, mr KLR650fegen...I shall pay a visit to ze doctor. Sank you.
