Don't take any notice. He's only got eyes for his KLR he gets tonight.

I always choose first impression. As the pics loaded, the standard (second pic) looks better than the first. First one looks "painted on just for the sake of it".

My 2c.

No LS, second one looks better, first one looks like a half way job. Still had to colour code the crashbars red. :D  :D

Hey man. The bike doesn't matter. As long as you have a DS bike. That's all that counts. (Sorry LS for the smallish Hi-jack)

Also the speed and power. I'll just kill myself on one of those.

I prefer the standard colour sceme LS.  Sorry, dude.  If you want to stand out as different, rather spray the tank another colour or something, but them GT stripes will not do.

I finally got one for a test ride on Saturday past.

The trip computer as LS remarked can do lots of stuff. I liked the temp and range on tank. The rest is not really needed, for that I have a GPS.
I was concerned about the fuel consumtion. According to the trip PC I averaged 7.7l/100km's which I think is a bit on the high side.

Bike felt very loose on gravel, but the set-up was not according to weight, ture pressures, etc, so that's not really a problem.

Wind protection was good - but I had more in my face wind. Screen couldn't adjust anymore up - there was a stupid bracket thing that blocked it's adjustment. Lowering the seat would help.
Suspension is better than std 1200 - bike never bottomed out in any of the ditches I crossed at speed.
The bikes had a few rattles which I didn't like.
My bike will kick it's ass on performance,  but yea it's weights quite a bit more.
All in all I was expecting more - dunno what, maybe I'm just pissed off as nobody is wanting to buy my bike.
Anyhow the bottom line is, I'm gonna postpone my purchase till the new year.

For some or other reason I'm trying to convince a mate of mine to sell me his '05 1150 GSA with 6000kays on the clock - the last "new" GSA sold at Bavaria.

Maybe I'm just suur druiwe

I still love the look of the ADV, I do however worry about crash protection, those BM Crash bars just don't do it.

Me thinks it is time to look at suspension for my standard 1200

I have seen pics of a crashed GSA on AdvRider. The rider came off hard but the bike was almost undamaged. The crashbars took a hit but held...only had scratches on them.
(too be fair, I also saw a pic where the crashbars broke. but the engine was fine)

I have no concerns about the bars ...besides, that's what insurance is for

Is there a huge difference in performance

I noticed quite a difference, but my bike isn't standard - from airfilter, to fullpipe, lighter wheels, and of course the weight difference between the two.

I saw a 1200GSA for the first time on the road this morning on my way to work past the Rietvlei dam towards the R21.

Who was the lucky bastard?
