XYZ Early Morning Old Mill Pass--Again-- On a wet Morning
« on: November 02, 2011, 03:41:03 pm »
Well after our awesome Lesotho Trip i was asked by S-4-B To take him up Old Mill Pass- :o

Now who am i to say No- >:D

Been up a couple of times there this and last year --Still Love the Pass for its untouched beauty-- ;)

So while the rest of the XYZ Society --the Ladies that is decided to go on a -Wind down ride on Sunday in Golden gate --I took S-4-B to do the long section from the Old Mill side as it is a little more technical and great fun to ride up -- ::)

Pictures are not many as one only has a few spots where one can stop and take pics as those few who have ridden it will tell you --the rest of the time you are too busyy concentrating on getting over the rocks and staying on the narrow track that seems to be getting worse by the rains and soil erossion that is making it even more fun to ride --

Now one must remember S-4-B has only been on a DS bike for 10 months and been spending a lot of time with me trying to get him doing things easier -for his own sake of course---------------------And let us not forget --he has a THING for Heights he tells me before we get to the pass :deal:

On Route to the Pass--

The Easy stuff before the Turn off --that many people forget and think they have ridden the Pass  :peepwall:

One of the few stopping places ---

S-4-B --Somewhere down there --trying to get his breath back  ::) and we have not even started the good stuff -- :mwink:

The Fun begins --- The track seems to be washed away a bit more than before --

Before --earlier this year -- on one of my solo rides -- this is what it looked like

Mudguard inspection time as it's called nowday's  -I just used to call it --jy het jou gat gesien --- :peepwall:

Luckily --The --Old Man can still pick a bike up off a friend --Luckily S-4-B is a friend -- ::)

The Top of the world ----

The way down --

Well done S-4-B --

After only ten months on a bike  :thumleft: Not many can say they have been able to do that in wet and slippery conditions as well --Next Baboons  ::)

Sorry for not showing more --but as i said --not much place to park and take pics --you will have to experience this one yourself --- or ask a Old Man to escort you up and over the Pass-- :mwink:

looking good.
that whole section in the 2nd and 3rd pics used to be loose rocks,  and not concrected,
this is the road surface you looked back at in pic 2 and 3

you turn right and go up another concrete bit just after your stop point in pic 4
also the section to where you turn right at the top,  on the smooth rocks,  it used to be tennis ball alley...

comparitive pic:

seems they are gradually making it a bit easier - aside from the washouts (as in your before and after pic)
also the down route seems a bit firmer - here's a comparitive pic of mine

need to go and ride it on my 400...

Well done S-4-B you love the white knuckle stuff anyway  ;D

The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

BMW 650 Dakar - don't get to ride it much anymore - my son has claimed it
Aprilia Dosodura 750 - My new bike - I love it

There is a new tennis ball alley much longer and more fun after all the rains just before you get out on top now from Old Mill side --S-4-B Parked his one wheel to close to the edge and with his fear of hieghts  ::)  i had to wait a while before he got it together again --- :mwink:

Thanks once again Michael :thumleft:

Just looking at those pictures has made me smile all over again.

Hell YES, I am petrified of heights , so there was no way I was riding on the ledge between the rut , and as far as I am concerned , the ABYSS......I was happy in the rut :imaposer:

My heart was pounding at probably 200 bpm's , but I would do it again in the blink of an eye.

All I know is that I am addicted , BADLY !!!!!

Mal, tis kinda nice being outnumbered by the girls....hell, it may well be by design >:D
Don't blame me for the name ....I was bullied into into it by J-Dog.....
"Change your name or ride a KTM"  he said , I changed my name !!!!

Rode it from Clarens side on Saturday, early morning

4 KLRs and a KLE, the KLE turned back....... ???

Not difficult, just hard work on the 650 - will be even harder on a bigger bike

Started in the rain with a rain jacket on - the sun came out and fried me - was sweating buckets by the time I got to the top

Can't see how it would be fun in a 4x4 - you'd have to wear a helmet
Don't let fear hold you back ..... take it with you!
