Sunday was the annual Frost Bite run with Lyndhurst.
All tar riding, but hey, still a ride! O0
We gathered at the BP garage on Corlette drive at 5.30am - still dark and very cold. My iPod froze up already.
We headed on the highway towards Villiers to meet up with some more riders. Along the way, one rider was stopped by the cops for obscuring his numberplate - so boys watch out!
Fortunately it was not as cold as last year, i recall it was -4 at Villiers last year!
Onwards towards Harrismith via the alternate route, better riding than the highway at least. Saw some frost on the side of the road, so the trip was on the correct path.
After a refill and coffee at Harrismith, which was dead quit:
Looking back at Harrismith
we worked our way towards Sterkfontein dam where you could see the snow in the distance
and then down Oliviershoek pass. Very nice pass, but lots of potholes in the road and baboons to watch out for.
We arrived at Montusi for an awesome breakfast, coffee and a good rest to stretch the legs and breathe in some fresh mountain air.
After breakfast we headed back up the pass towards Clarens side through Golden Gate.
Some people don't learn, here is kuruman68 filling his pants with newspaper to keep out the cold (Hot off the press! >)
Heuweltop turnoff just inside the Golden Gate National Park, this is an interesting ride to get you to lesotho and Monatsa border post.
Golden Gate has some very nice twisty's
Some interesting scenery in Golden Gate:
The remains of snow on the mountains just outside of Clarens
All in all a good days ride, thanks Mikedabike and the rest of the Lyndhurst team, it was a great ride..
.. and thanks for the breakfast, you guys are the best! O0
KM's for the day = 860
Lot's of good riding - even though it was tar ;D
