Wet, Wet, Wet Sunday

Riding on a wet Sunday

ROSE early on Sunday got dressed in all my riding gear and then set the washing machine on cold wash and climbed in for several hours.
The scene could be out of a horror movie or a comedy but it is what it felt like as five Wilddogs and myself pulled out of the Richwood service station and took to the road.
The rain never let up and as we headed past Contermans Kloof, swept over to Occudale Road and then onto Slent road it pelted us and seemed to get heavier and heavier.
By the time we were winding across the many farms in the Porcelain Road area and headed to Malmesbury it was a matter of blind navigation.
Either the visor misted up so one was looking at the world from inside a glass of milk or on opening the visor to help with a bit of visibility the rain pelted the eyes blinding one.
And in many places it became fairly exciting as the gravel surface was slowly changing to a skating rink.
Fortunately for all Leftless who was riding in full summer gear and thanks to the rain looked like an underwater dweller had more than frozen his butt off and turned into the Engen service station in Malmesbury.
While he thawed out a little we all greeted Firecoast who had made a later start and taken the tar to Malmesbury. Wise dog.
Tweets remarked that it was supposed to be summer in the Cape with no rain. Next time he says he will come to cape Town in Winter to avoid the bad weather.
Coffee break over we took the easy way out and rode the tar to Riebeeckasteel and breakfast at Eds Diner.
Unfortunately somewhere along the road we lost contact with KLR who we are sure headed straight for home and a warm shower.
And true to form the sun started breaking through while we all downed several cups of coffee.
By the time we left the village and headed for the Porcelain Road the rain had passed and although cloudy the zig zag ride home was dry.
And amazingly tracks we had earlier ridden were now dry.
Thanks to Andy, Leftless, Oros, KLR, Tweets and Firecoast no one suffered any major discomfort, but alas the bikes really need a good scrub.

Clearly I was the only sensible person to wear a rainsuit  :P

Had a blast on the ride back.

Thank you to all! Had a lot of fun.

Now, I need to buy yet another bottle of brandy for not waiting long enough for Pure Orange! Sowwi!

Thanks Robin for sharing that video. I love that "golden brown" colour of those swiss roll hay bails near the end.

BTW,... what camera & video editing software are you using? Video came out very nice. :thumleft:

Thanks to all for the wonderful ride and companionship. As for the weather, I dont come to CT in the winter, cause I know its cold and wet. So I come in the summer, without a raincoat,  when its NOT supposed to RAIN. So OK we got a bit drenched, but it dried up after Riebeek Kasteel, and EDs Diner.  ;D

Se ya all next year. Go SAFE over the festive season

Cool stuff! I saw the SMS when I hit the R62 on my way back, and though: 'How! If the weather is rainy in Ladismith, they it must be swimming in CT!"

Nice ride, nice vid!!  :thumleft:
