April Fools Day - Breedtsneck
« on: April 02, 2006, 06:48:25 am »
Ja so the long awaited get to know all trip finally happened. Early morning we met at the Pinehaven Garage, and met everyone, and greeted friends already met on previous rides. Was an excellent turnout - 15 bikes in total, with the KLR's (3) being th ebest attended. Actually there were two of each, except for the lonely AT of Gideon & the KTM of a guys who's name I have forgotten.(Sorry man - but he's not on this forum yet)

Wino was in charge and soon  we set off for Breedtsneck and whatever challenges awaited us there.

We stopped near Magalies as one of the okes had to offload his KTM (motoX) bike as it was not road legal.

Unfortunately is was a K@k To Maintain, so the bike wouldn?t start

so the owner tried towing it behind his bakkie???..

and eventually this had to happen ??.. :D

Well he got his bike going and we set off to the imfamous Breedtsneck Pass

The view from the top of Breedtsneck

The route we wanted to take looked rather daunting so Shark, Wino, Digital Dan, Louis & the guy on the KTM went to down to see if we?d get through.
The route was tough, even the KTM couldn?t make it. Getting the bikes out of there was a moerse job with lots of spills & sweet

Sharkie mis-treating his KLR  :D

while the rest of the crowd anxiously watched from above

After all that we had to take a break

From there we decided to head back to the canal 2 route and ride it in reverse sequence back to Harties. Sun city was somewhere in the vicinity?

but we were in biking Utopia?.

Grootseun fixing his chainguard

The route along the canal was dry, no mud except for a few spots, but the grass was shoulder high when standing. Believe it or not ? there?s 13 bikes behind me somewhere in that grass?

Smokebreak

This is either Wino or Frinze finding parking inside a old ruin

Grootseun sporting some real estate he?s purchased J

While DigitalDan was sporting some serious makeup (onderlaag)

Gideon also joined in the makeup fun?

Eventually we got to Upperdeck where we all enjoyed a hearty meal.
Harties had one of the sleuch open, so some lovely green water was flowing out the dam

??and that?s all from me.
Sure more photo?s to follow from the other guys.

What an awesome ride. It was nice to meet all the new faces....

Here are my pics:

The PTA people meeting early in the morning at John Voster Frinze and Gideon. DigitalDan and Ufudo joined as well.

At Pinehaven, coffee was enjoyed by all (It was very cold for so early in the year!!)

On the way to Magalies, I went ahead to take some pics, missed the first few fumbling with the zip to get the camera out.

Welshie on the GSV

Leo on the red 1200GS

TheCuteness on the 1150ADV

Lourens on the new 650GS

Gideon on the AT

Ufufo and Mrs Ufudo (Respect for doing this whole trail 2 up)!!!

On the top of the Breedtsnek pass, the view is awesome!!

The DRZ, nice bike for this trip!!

Leo in front with Ufudo behind

Ufudo and Partner making it look easy!!

We followed the path up to the top, while the boys went to see if we could make it further.. The view from the top.

The 3 KLR's

We were getting closer to sun city, but had to wait for the rest

The rest of the group coming through

Smoke break time....

We were getting very hungry, so not many photos from here...
Wino for the artistic shot

Another smoke break, thanks guys....

Again thanks to all for the ride, what a great turnout and a awesome ride!!

First off thanks guys great ride ! Nice to meet everyone as well. Here are some of my pics.

Meeting the PTA guys at 6:20 am, I was at the very top of the on-ramp and thought it was an April fools joke when there was no-one there
Meanwhile they were further on up the road. An early misty start.

There were some cool photos to be had as I rode to Pinehaven, but I had to make the most of my headstart. The big bikes were chasing me

The first stop of the day where the KTM300 was offloaded. Shark and Welshman discussing the ride ahead.

Top of the pass, the road was easy compared to what lay ahead. Beautifull view indeed.

Buffelspoortdam in the distance.

Wino's Transalp ready to tackle the trail.

My DRZ with Dirt Bagz (thanks Killer and Wino) at the top of the pass.

The trail up ahead looks difficult and it was REAL difficult, we had to give it a try though. Coming down the track, still pretty easy going.

It's getting savage ....

Come on we can do it !

Er ok maybe not, Shark and KTMguy (forgot name  :? ) battling the BIG hill with soccerball sized rocks !

When I saw them spinning and going at it I decided to park my bike three quarters of the way down along with Leo. Looking back now I should have givin it a go but it was real tough getting the bikes back up so I decided to spare ourselves pushing a fifth one back up, plus someone had to take the pics

Some of the scenery in the "valley"

Bet the Baboons were having a good chuckle at these strange animals pushing and swearing at the metal monsters

Louis bike at the bottom

Louis coming back up, you can do it !

Keep it going, almost there ..

Dang ! He goes down !

Phew man that was fun ! Down the pass on some sano roads and everyone was happy to get something cold to drink at the Kromriver liquor store !

Lourens saying hello and living life  8)

Taking a quick pic, on a nice long dirt stretch. Would have been perfect if one of the stoutgat klein locals did not throw a rock at me, damn my knee took a direct hit

More riders coming through

Ufodu riding sweeper

Time for another well deserved breather

Taken after Shark's "Grassroots route"

Gideon's AT and Ufodu's Adventure

The GSV taking a break

Close to the end of the ride and everyone is thinking FOOD ! Tricky little water crossing.

When are we riding again ?

PS Hope the DRZ did not keep you guys up too much and the tar sections.
