Big/Interesting trees
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:29:37 am »
I am in a process of visiting  big/unusual/beautiful/unique trees in South Africa. Any tree will be very welcome.  Please provide a location description so that the tree can be found and identified.  Pictures would be great.

Net buite Hoedspruit is 'n moerse kremetart (Boabab) boom. Dit is blykbaar die grootste in SA.

This tree grows against the rock in a kloof on Uitspan in the Western end of Baviaans. Some kind of wild fig I think. Magnificent.

I'll be at Uitspan again on the 15th March. There is also a Wild Olive which is apparently one of the oldest in the country. I'll take a pic and get the story.

Also see if I can get a fuller pic of the Wild fig. Very difficult in the narrow kloof.

There is a big eucalyptus if you take the path that starts at Constania nek. I think we has about 8 kids around it with arms outstretched. Have a photo but need to find it somewhere.

There's some amazing old and huge trees in Kirstenbosch botanical gardens in Cape Town.
Let's go into the mountains...there's likely to be peace and quiet

Nice idea. There's this tree growing against the side of the boulders at Letterklip outside Garies not sure what kind of tree it is. The English used this place as a fort during the Anglo Boer War.
