Just got back from a trip to the South Coast on my R1200RT BMW...!
What a fantastic long distance tourer it proved itself to be.
Had my wife and all the luggage including a fully loaded top box and a double expanded tank bag.
1st time I have had a bike with cruise control and it made the trip so much more relaxing.
It's the new spec motor with twin cams and it's got just the right amount of power.
Van Reenens Pass uphill in 6th gear at 80km/h and it was no problem at all. Just purrs along.
Loves the twisty bits too and is not scared to hall ass...

Had a scare this morning when I got flagged down at 05h15 by traffic police when I was clocked at 1#% (can't put it in wrighting as they may decide to look for me) Only reason I got off was they had to give chase to a guy doing slightly more than me in a S3 Audi!!! Think he was doing just over 200 km/h.
Went through several showers wearing only my rain jacket and my jeans never even saw a drop.
Wife said the Honda ST1300 was maybe a slightly softer seat but the suspension is not even in the same class. Space was more on the ST but the pegs on the RT were more comfortable for her.
Wife says this is the first bike I have had that she has seen no signs of buffeting and that the ride is so smooth compared to all other bikes we have toured on. Varadero, Transalp, St1300, VFR800, VFR1200, GTR1400, FJR1300, Burgman 650, FJS600,
So all in all I think I am very happy with the BMW R1200 RT. that was of course until we stopped at Villiers and a chap pulled in on the GTL1600. Damn, what a bike.... On my wish list for next year for sure.
So two days in the saddle and 2100 km's later I am one very happy chappy!!
Good riding and a very good new year to all.
