« on: January 26, 2012, 09:19:13 am »
I have been thinking of buying Photoshop but there is quite a range. What is Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 like? and will this be good enough. I have a Cannon EOS 50D and enjoy wildlife photo's I would like to have some flexability with my photo's. Have some Dog's got some advice on what to buy.

Elements is more than good enough, but do investigate Lightroom, great program.

Between those 2 it depends how much editing you want to do. LR is a nice database management thing to.

If you have the money, get both.

Dunno if you've been down this route, but you can get Gimp for free. Lacks a few Photoshop features, but it has lots of online advice and scripts.

Its very different. Not a full on editing thing.

Just get Elements for now and take it from there.

Just do it.  :)

I use Elements and the Full CS 5 photoshop.

Lightroom is lekker and seems to have allot of nice presets.

ADOBE have Lightroom 4 the newest version in BETA form as a free limited time download for testing.

Its very nice and also does video.

Please allow me to sidetrack this threat a bit -

I'm taking all my photos in RAW format, however PS CS5 cannot open the RAW file of the Nikon D7000. So what I now do is convert the NEF file to DNG format by using Adobe DNG converter.  Only then can CS5 open the DNG format.

Is this the only way or is there another.  I've searched the net for a CS5 patch, but it seams Adobe would like you to buy e new version everytime you upgrade your camera.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jacques

Jacques, if you shoot raw you would love lightroom. Why not download the beta.

Jacques. CS5 must open D7000 RAW. You must download something.

Got LR 3 and must say for photo editing it is similar to PS, the presets are very nice.  But if you want to create posters and modify photo's, then PS is the way to go.  For what I've used PS for, I found LR to better.
