Quarry Play area - PTA East 8 April 06
« on: April 08, 2006, 12:22:41 pm »
So we meet at 07h30 at the garage corner of Lynwood and Hans Strijdom. Myself, BLA-BLA and Marius (Don't think he is on the forum). Fill up with go juice and leave at about 07h45.

Down Hans Strijdom, right at fourway onto the old Bronkies road. about 5 to 10 km's down we turn left onto sand for a short while and then right onto a sand (thickish) road into the quarry. This was my first excursion to the quarry and my first bit of real technical (up and down riding). The view as you come into the quarry is quite intimidating with steep climbs right in front of you. BLA and M head straight up the first climb, I take a second or two to compose myself (feeling a bit nervous at this point). Anyway up we go to the top to deflate tyres.

Pic at the top of us defalting tyres (No guess which one is BLA - look for the RICHA kit).

Doesn't she look just beautiful in this environment. The hill that can be seen just to the right of the helmet is the first one you do.

Another of the baby after about 45 minutes playing. The quarry is awesome and offers everything you can want to play in, steeps climbs, steep descents, thick sand, technical rutted sections etc...

Marius at the bottom of the quarry playing. The Dakkie sounds awesome and is probably the right toy for the quarry even though the 1200GS's handled very well in this environment.

2 pics of BLA-BLA coming down one of the descents. ( I was having a smoke break)

All done, 2 hours of playing in the quarry what awesome fun was had but HELL this is hard work (must have sweated out 20 liters of sweat)

Thanks to BLA for taking us to the quarry. The best thing of all is that it is probably only 10 minutes away from home. The quarry will see lots of me over the coming weeks and with all that excercise I may even loose some weight.

The new boots bought from BLA especially for this purpose were awesome. Realy gives you more control standing and a lot more support in the ankles.

Thanks again guys it was great. So all you peeps who did not join today, when are we going there. It is a brilliant place to improve your skill levels.

Thanks Fun & Marius, it was lekker as always.  The quarry is a cool place to practise your skills, and with the shop about 1km away, you don't need to carry plenty of water and stuff.

I recon we must go visit the quarry at least once a month.  After playing there, we can ride some hard dirt around Boschkop to cool down.

Nice pics Fun, and thanks for the free advertising!

:D A big thank you to Bla-Bla and Fun for a lovely morning. For the 'big boys' out there that think its easy, its also lekker...but 'eish' you get tired...maybe a good idea to keep fit! Especialy when you have to pick-up the GS on a downhill and you are fighting 200deep Quarry sand...Bla and Fun! We must do it again

there is one close by LS...
do you know where the Bush pub is? the road from durbanville to richwood. there is a similar practice place, but see too many Private Property signs.... would be good to be able to muck around there sometime.

Ahh, thanks... I will try to find out about it. Perhaps I can get the owner's permission to use it whenever we want

So the ride was very kewl, the pain afterwards not so good. I managed to hurt my wrist in the process (that is the reason for being up so early on a Sunday). Don't know where I did it or when, but the wrist is all swolen and seriously painful. It was not sore until the ride home when it started getting sore and now I can barely move it?????

If you can type you can ride! :D  :D
If you can keep your head in the midst of all this confusion, you don't understand the situation!

had that  last year. you'll think it's broken, but dont get x-rays, you'll just be wasting money. keep it supported, the pain will subside after a week.
use lots of voltaren and a wrist support.

You need to ICE, that wrist -I:Ice it with the pack you get from a Chemist; COMPRESS it: Bandage lekker tight; Take some Anti-Inflamitories and try to keep it a little inactive if you can. And stil keep on riding otherwise it will get stiff on you!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think it is just the tendons that are hurt. Nothing too serious, just made me not get much sleep....

How much, do they work well with the 1200 gear selector?

Initially when I got the boots and rode with them, it was quite difficult to change gears, but with a bit of adjustment of the gear lever (upwards as the boots are quite thick), it is not a problem. It does take some getting used to it, but I had no problems on the play sections on Saturday. Actually a whole lot more comfortable than I thought they would be..

When I go touring next (27th of April), I will be wearing them, will give you feedback after that, but on current impressions yes.

They are also waterproof.
