I just spoke to someone at SARS and asked them what the import duties are for spare part on mororcycles. To my surprise there is NO duty payable, only VAT at 14%!!!
So my question is has anybody gone this route and if not why are we still paying the crazy prices that the local dealers are charging?
For example: I want to buy a Scotts steering damper. I can buy this on the net (directly from Scotts USA for $699, that includes a triple clamp!) add $70 for shipping and 14% VAT and it come to R6500. Now compare that to the local dealer's price of R6000 JUST for the damper and it just doesn't make sense?????
Shouldn't we all be buying directly from the overseas manufacturers??
