Lephalale
« on: March 21, 2012, 10:39:12 am »
I recently ( a week ago) moved to Lephalale.

Any suggestions apart from Botswana (for now) what to go and see in the surrounding area. Suggestions on breakfast runs, camping and attractions would be appreciated.

The internet is full of lodges etc. but I'm looking for those places you always drive past on the way to a spot you found on the net.
I'd love to meet up with fellow doggers in the area.
 ;)

Medupi but on the Water Augmentation Project (pipeline). I'll be here for about three years. The plan is to see all of the neighbouring countries and then maybe after this project shoot up back to the UK on the GS of course and picking up the next project there. We'll see how it goes........

I sat in a meeting a couple of months ago, an old school opposition sales but with design background was spouting how his company was training previously disadvantaged engineers, but every reference was to Elisras, it was fun watching the client cringe each time he said it 8)

Hi Bolloxs. Always good to surround you with people with the same addictions/interests. It makes you feel normal. I've see quite a few more bikes in town, with a good mix of Triumph and BMW 800's many 1200's and a good few 990's. I've also seen some chinas wearing jackets with something like "Ellisras Road Hogs" or the like. I bet they do breakfast runs and so forth. They regularly sit at Die Stoep.

What riding do you prefer? The tar roads are mostly quite dangerous with potholes, warthogs, donkeys and cattle to keep you on your toes. There are a few nice and challenging dirt roads, compliments of the non-existent maintenance schedule that came with the name change.

Botswana is a great place to go, with a couple of great places half a day from here. Call me and we can chat over a beer or two.  :thumleft:

To satisfy the masses I've "updated" the title and description in the fred from Ellisras to Lephalale so I'm time travelling again :pot:
Although it must be said that driving to "this town" from Bella Bella there are a few sign boards indicating how far to go to "Ellisras" and also as you drive into town soon after the "Welcome to Lephalale" sign another sign reads "Ellisras Hospital" or something.
I suppose driving here ones age fluctuates with a few years as the miles (or KM's) go by.............. ;D

Anyhow......no sweat!!

Thanks for the reply Avontier. I'll be in contact.

Type of rding.....we'll on and offroad as long as the missus who normally sits waiting for me on the bike when I fetch the keys  can come allong on the road. I'm no pro rider but enjoy a challenge. I also have no problem if my bike is covered in mud and dust. :thumleft:
I'm not her for a long time but a good time.....

Will keep the ride reports coming as they happen. Yesterday SWMBO went to Thabazimbi for Lunch. Didn't really do any planning so we didn't know where to go and ended up there.  :ricky:

Hi Dogs

Yes ouens, moet bietjie so iets doen.  Bly ook hier in ou ellisras sedert 2010.  Werk by Medupi.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Waar is  Limpopo draai?

So 50km uit Lephalale oppad Groblers Bridge toe. Die plekkie sit so langs die pad op regterhand. Ons gaan Sondag weer n draai maak daar.

You guys must let us know when you have a ride there again as I am originally from there. My dad is still there, so will be good to go ride with you lot
You know you've landed with the wheels up when it takes full power to taxi to the ramp.
