Hi guys

Will find out what make the ICO is, it works really well.

Fuel tank capacity is 19 at the rear and about 20 up front, giving you a really good range.

The bikes haven't had a final costing yet but should be just over R200k without Nav equipment.

Cheers
I gather you are hiring the bikes for Dakar rather than buying them? Is the ~R200k the hiring cost or the purchase price?

I think that would be for the purchase of the bikes.

Not much cheaper than a new KTM 450 RR (Euro 33K) then.

Well spotted on that Dream Believe Achieve!

I see that other 111 bike is a beaut!

Hey guys

At R200k that is about R150k cheaper than the KTM.

The 111 bike is the bike we will be using at Dakar. That specific bike is being tested at the Australasian Safari as we speak for some more R&D.

Over and above the Honda being just over half the price of the KTM, a replacement piston doesn't cost R17k either.....

These Ausies have thought this one out really well. There will be absolutely NO added weight on the handle bars, the ERTF is off the bars. This is a big plus point on handling. The bike is really narrow and handles well. It also weighs less than the KTM

Cheers

Sounds really good. I'll be curious to know what they have done with the suspension. BTW 111 is my number ;D

Word from the organizers is that they are worried the Peru legs will be too difficult, especially so early in the rally.

What this means is that we should see a 40% DNF rate by the time they get to Arequipa on day 3; and this will save them a lot of money in catering and logistics.

Making Dakar: Part One - The Plan
« Reply #135 on: October 24, 2012, 12:10:55 am »
Making Dakar: A truly privateer Dakar story.

Making Dakar is a mini documentary following a British based privateer team, Delta Kunststoffe Husqvarna UK as they prepare for the World's toughest race in 2013, the Dakar Rally.
The first episode focuses on lead rider, Simon Pavey  :thumleft:, as he talks about the teams plans for 2013 and practices on the teams test bike.

I love that video. Si Pavey is a helluva good guy always very relaxed even when changing an engine all by himself out in the dunes in the middle of the night! ;D

BTW the new Gas Gas rally bike hsould be intersting to watch. When I think of Gas Gas I think
