I hope the other manufacturers can give KTM a run for their money. It will really spark things!

I see Robby is in!

 Courtesy Marathon Rally!

Dakar Rally 2013: Robby Gordon enters Dakar again with Hummer H3 Proto.

Fresh from Dakar 2012 where he was ranking 2nd overall, Robby Gordon enters with a Hummer which, following preliminary checks, fulfills all regulatory requirements. The American will be at the starting line on 5 January and adds his name to the list of contenders for the title.

Francis Ford Coppola had Matt Dillon say "Don't you know a rumble ain't a rumble without me?" just before the final scene of the film Outsiders. It is exactly in this spirit that Robby Gordon has been simmering away for several weeks whilst awaiting the official confirmation of his participation in Dakar 2013.

Whilst the necessary checks were being carried out on a Hummer that had been disqualified in 2012, the American looked on from afar at the crews who would be competing for the title in a few weeks’ time. Just like his teammate from last year Nasser Al Attiyah and the returning Carlos Sainz, both equipped with brand new buggies, the Californian showman will come to challenge the Minis of Stéphane Peterhansel and Nani Roma.

The H3 that sparked debate in 2012 has been vetted in the workshops of Charlotte: it has been initially declared fit to jump in the dunes of Peru, Argentina and Chile, between 5 and 20 January next year. Gordon, who will be displaying race number 315 on his car in Lima, also aims to improve on the 3rd place gained in 2009, at the first South American Dakar.

The "rebel" will be flanked by his co-pilot in 2011, Kellon Walch. But with the sheer amount of buggies and 4x4s capable of competing at the highest possible level, places on the podium carry an even higher price tag.

From www.simonpavey.com:

Making Dakar Part Two focuses on the unseen side of being a privateer team in the Dakar, the preparation. Whilst many of the big teams in the Dakar have full time employees working on their race projects, every member of Team Delta Kunststoffe Husqvarna UK have full time jobs, meaning that only evenings and weekends are left for building bikes, packing parts, stripping spare bikes, organising logistics, media and training and testing.

The second part of the series also introduces two new faces, team mechanic Evan Davies and the team driver and logistics expert, Paul Green. Both Paul and Evan have had an incredible amount of work on their hands to get the bikes and assistance vehicle for the riders Simon and Don.

The episode also looks into what goes into to training for a grueling race like Dakar and how difficult it is for privateers to make sure they are fully prepared for the difficulties ahead.

Kenisis I like your theory, if it only were not for the greedy frenchies!

Bmad, this year its starts on the 5th Jan, I believe so that there is one more week for the coastal mists to burn off.

In other news Brazilian Felipe Zanol and British Sam Sunderland in the Honda Factory team are out, both while doing final testing of their Hondas in Southern California.

Sam crashed "through no fault of his own" shortly after starting out and broke his wrist.  :-[ He is understandibly devastated.

It gets worse: Felipe crashed at 100km/hr hitting his head and was airlifted to San Felipe, where I believe he has come out of an induced coma and is apparently responding but its too early to know the full diagnosis.  :'( Sounds very serious.

We are waiting for an official statment from Honda.

Eish, this is not good news  :o
Not good for the riders, not good for Honda, not good for the WAGs of prospective future riders, not good for the race.

A huge blow to the participants, sport and the team - to get that dished out weeks before the event is devastating.

Hope Felipe is ok.

Excitement is building!

Glad Robbie is back.  He's an arrogant ego maniac.  But he has balls and I loved his response to their stupid disqualification fiasco last year :thumleft:  He has my support just for that!  And who doesnt love watching  that monster truck floating along at high speed?

Twitter reports that Sam Sutherland had a successful operation on a broken scaphoid (little bone in the hand), and that Felipe Zanol is out of the coma.

Then from advrider.com - "Have heard a little whisper the Jake Smith will ride at Dakar to fill in for Sam. Looks like they will be taking five riders ?"
