It was that time of the year again for a little adventure. This time we decided to explore some parts of southern Mozambique. Unfortunately this time the usual crowd could not make it so we were reduced to two bikes.

We started our trip in Nelspruit, and travelled via the old road to Maputo.

Gary transporting us to our sleeping qaurters for the night. Steering not as precise as a bike's but floats just a little bit better.

Just finding our sea legs.

The next morning we had to haul our stuff from this beauty into the half submerged dingy, and the waves was not a good thing for the babbie.

From Maputo we took a small road up to Marracuene, where we took the ferry over the Inkomati. Then we headed up to Bilene via a very sandy road.

Yours truly, on the ferry, with a nervous grin after hearing from a local that the upcoming sand track was very thick.

Enjoying a cold one in the camp site in Bilene after a hard day's work.

Aaaghh! What a night! It started raining and we had to put all our gear into the bonsai tent with us during the night. The next day did not bring any relieve to our misfortunes when the Traffic Cone's key got lost and we struggled to get the steering lock and ignition removed with a chisel. 6 hours later we headed to Xai-Xai.

Not everything is doom and gloom as spirits were lifted in the Xai-Xai camp.

A beautiful day as we left Xai-Xai. We headed inland to Manjacaze.

XL 125's littered the landscape. A fellow rider poses whilst we are having a cool one.

The market in Panda.

The road from Manhica to Maxixi, from where we headed up to Morrungulo.

The following day in Morrungulo we did some repairs on all the stuff that rattled loose, and some minor services.

A beautiful campsite, just watch out for dropping coconuts and rat sh*t in the bread.

Later that afternoon we headed out to Pomene. Mixture of hard and soft surfaces. A lovely ride.

After a couple of cold ones ate Pomene lodge, we took the way home. A days riding I will not forget.

Dinner. Fresh out of the sea, with a couple of cold ones, which is part of our staple diet.

From Morrungulo we once again headed inland to Sitila. If was raining for most of the day.

Stopping at a village on our way from Sitila to Morrumbene.

The road from Manhica to Panda, which is quite wide, but full of large holes to dispense the unwary.

From Panda we travelled to Inharrime. Great roads for riding, and beautiful. Always time for a stop so that the locals can enjoy the machinery.

dsc01925sc6.jpg

And stopping for those with weak bladders. By the time we reached Quissico it was dark and the wind was blowing us all over the place.

dsc01929pa1.jpg

Next morning in Quissico was a lovely day. Great riding lay ahead.

dsc01932jp4.jpg

The track from the camp site to Quissico was one of the nicest pieces of road I have ridden.

Villages between the palms.

A big church north of Mavila.

And the fun started. The road kept on getting smaller and less travelled.

dsc01942td8.jpg

Eventually it disappeared all together. A small cattle track was all that was visible for several tens of kilometers before it joined a bigger road to Manjacaze. Lovely riding.

From Manjacaze we headed to west to Jantigua, Chibuto bfore turning south to Chissano. After a few kilometers on the black stuff the rear ends became sore and the first gravel road was taken, which headed through large settlements to Chicombane. From there we followed the Limpopo to Posto Zoengoene before we headed back to Bilene. A fantastic day's riding.

The night in Bilene, which was filling up fast with chicken coops and four wheelers for the long weekend.

The last day of the trip. we decided to take the route next to the Inkomati river back to the border. A kiln for firing bricks.

The vegetation turned back to bosveld.

A great country, with great people. Just the thing for adventure riding.
