Ek was so 7 jaar oud.

Wil dit los vir my kenners.

Ja right.

Very cool pics and story.  I have just come across this thread.  Makes me homesick for the ocean and good life.  I grew up just outside Durban and my grandparents lived on the beach, south of Durban.  Keep the pics coming.

The river flowing through Boet Erasmus. You can see where it exits next to the old Coloured stand, then it runs across the B-field and into Happy Valley.

1. Standing in Forest Hill again, on the same corner of Protea Ave as before, looking towards Boet Erasmus. See that Combi on the left, I saw it being rolled down the river like a matchbox.

2. Turning around and looking down Protea Ave towards EP Command again. On my previous pic thye red Ranger would havestood where you see the Fiat in the ditch.

3. Another victom of the river, found down stream by the stadium when the water subsided.

Daai arme ou Fiatjie! Hier in my buurt ry nog so ene rond...

In the last pic above you can see a bull-dozer constructing a temporary road accross the river. We could not go to school for a week.

I found lots more old newspaper pics and if you want me to post them, let me know.

Some time ago I showed you the Square in front of the City Hall and how sad it was that it got destroyed for the sake of progress.

1. Today. City Hall is behind my right shoulder

2. How it was. More or less the same view with City Hall behind the photographers left shoulder.

Sad this. As kids we used to pass the time in the garden while waiting for the bus eating cones from Sugarbush.

What a fark-up driving through city centre nowadays. For the first time in many years I went past there last week. Almost took 20 minutes from Russel rd to old library!
Kom ons maak 'n stoffie.
