...... should be calculated carefully first and then sometimes it's just better to walk away and live to ride another day.  :peepwall:

I have just read an article in an earlier edition of our mag of guys who did it in 4x4s. Experienced guides and stuff.

My verdict? It's undoable for any normal rider on a 700cc plus DS bike. Unless you have hordes of helpers with straps and don't mind doing thousands of rands of damage to your bike. And run the risk of very serious injury. Which, in my mind, is pointless.

Will try and post a pdf of the article. The rocks and steps further down are INSANE.

Regarding the Everest analogy: Yes, it is tough and potentially dangerous. Do it right, get lucky and it's relatively easy. Doing it in hiking boots with a Cape Union Mart fleece top is stupid.

For me its a personal challenge - I have been there twice and both times I have had to turn back - I must ride down there and back up on a motorcycle - its my "thing" to do

Have you ever failed at something and thought "Fuck that ! I can do this !" and then gone back and enjoyed success

The RTH is certainly not insurmountable - I rode worse stuff on my KDX while racing enduros but that was on a 100 kg KDX - not a 200 kg + DS bike that I rode to the enduro with all my kit, did the race, and then rode home again

I know I can do this - if it doesn't kill me it will make me stronger
I agree in total with Justin
I would like to do it
Allbeit with a smaller bike maybe and one could maybe draw a comparison afterwards
Your own riding skills and weapon of choice taken into consideration.

Its like i said after the Amageza............its fine to do 'some' stretches of hard rocks and incline steps with a heavy DS bike but crazy to attempt 10k's of it.
The situation you are in and circumstances dictate the tool you will use, not the other way around!
It makes sense to have a 4X4 vehicle with trailer handy that can maybe winch a bike out of the shit and it makes sense to have the vehicle there for eventualities that may happen like broken bones or more serious injuries.
You have to be able to get a person to Springbok and medical treatment within the first hour or so!

Be that as it may - the RTH will be conquered whether some thinks it un-DS-like or not!

Do it now - tomorrow you are dead!

I fully agree with DirtyHarry, this should be a one man and his machine mission. Otherwise you'll see RR's of Stens and GS' that has been pushed and pulled [behind the scenes], to do this road. Proper D/S, rider on his own.
I do not mind going totally out of my comfort zone, in fact I do not have a comfort zone :mwink:, so for me no planning, just a few of John West's flat packets of tuna, and there you go. Life is good. Ek skrik mos nie vir n klip nie. :xxbah:

So n bek moet jam kry!  :thumleft:

Ek stem Oom Daan. Daai paadjie kan gedoen word op n proper DS, maar dit sit nie in enige ou se broek om dit te doen nie. Ek hoop regtig die volgende ouens wat dit aanpak sal suksesvol wees.  :ricky:

Ek gaan net baie spyt wees as hulle dit sonder my doen.  :'(

Hell PFJ etal. What lekker rr this was. Ja practice confidence and a lightr bike will definitely help. This I know for sure. This vid taken about a year ago now that gate is a diddle as are a lot of the single track about. Still need to write my rr when I played in the sand on andys/kamanya bike pre dissection and plastic surgery of note. Other true ds bike to seriously contend with that trip could be the Ktm oryx with a seat transplant/ implant!

Thanks for the compliment

I agree with the "kakpraat" bit - the kakpraaters should start their own R T H thread in "Planning a Ride"

I want to put this invitation out there. For those who don't have proper cameras or the know-how to use them I will offer
my services to film a return trip to this spot. I will unfortunately not attempt riding there on HPN 663 so I will use my KDX.
This will be sensible as the "photographer" needs to be extra mobile. >:D If I still had my old KLR, which I didn't give much for,
it might have been a different matter. One condition though, there must be at least one proper DS bike making the attempt.
Any DS bike heavier than say 160kg... Wolfmother?  :deal: This is compulsory as the whole idea of the video will be to document
how one can ride a bike from far away to the spot down at the river and back.
