Let me please offer apologies to Justin and his team for us so barging in on their thread, but in fairness this sort of challenge will lead to barging in. Gj and myself left Thursday morning at about 10h00 and slept over in Springbok, Friday morning we left Springbok again at about 09h30/10h00 and rode into the RTH and out, and continued on the Namaqualand 4x4 trail for quite a bit before setting up camp along the Orangy Gariep on Friday evening. Today[Saturday] we returned via Pella, Pofadder, Kliprand, Vanrhynsdorp and N7 to Stellenbosch.
If you give us time there will be a ride report.
PS; this route is very difficult, and Justin's group were indeed wise to not attempt it under their circumstances. GJ took all of 30secs to go up the approximately 3-400meters that forms the very difficult part, my attempt took about 20minutes, with 3 stall/stops, one of which GJ had to help push until my bike could grip enough to go on it's own steam.

Well done GJ and 2StrokeDan. You guys are in a league not to many are in.  :thumleft:

PS: I will just say this again. The road is doable on a DS bike as they have just proven. But anyone wanting to go ride it do not take this road lightly. Plan it and then ride it.  :ricky:

I will get my turn to ride it one day.     :patch:

Well done 2SD and GJ for doing it, to end the tales of mystery and imagination. Hope you guys got some footage. :thumleft:

The XR650R would have done this [almost] as easily as the 690, the only snag would be the kickstarting when you inevitably stall the engine. You stand against a severe uphill, on a bed of very loose rocks of all sizes, and here kickstarting would almost be impossible. It's not like you are on a 125 2stroke that needs a superlight prod.
Rovrat on his 660 would have made it too, of this I am sure. The weight penalty on the 660 would be a factor though. My bike, the XT600E, with it's weight, soggy suspnsion and low ground clearance makes it impossible to simply storm an obstacle, you'll just hit that rockbank with your bellyplate and go over the handlebars. So it is a balance of clutch and momentum and prayer :imaposer:
