First accident on the bike :(
« on: May 14, 2012, 08:00:16 am »
A bakkie crashed into my bike last night.

I was waiting on Cnr of John Voster and Lenchen Avenue around 19H00 at a red light and this bloke with his bakkie slammed into my bike.  He was busy on his blackberry and did not see the light change to red.

Bike is fine, just need to get a new rear tyre and a new exhaust system, as well as a quick overlook at the bike just to make sure that the impact didn't cause more trouble.  The front break is making a funny noise after the bump (I was on the front break when he hit me)

I am a bit shaken.  I used the car this morning, and stepped out at work as a mental wreck.  Everyone seems to be out to kill the other road users....

Glad you are ok.

Hope you gave him a PK for using his phone while driving.
That really gets me angry when I see that every day.

Thanks WD's

If I started hitting him I would not have stopped.  And thing is in situations like this, I relax.  When I phoned the girlfriend, she was like in it does not sound like you just had an accident...  So key is to keep calm, get details and get to the SAPS ASAP.

I passed a BMW driver on the Highway on Saturday.  He was swerving over three lanes.  I wanted to take out his window.  I think I am going to start riding with spark plugs and taking out Windows...

Really glad you made it out alive and without injuries, that can be a serious accident.
People in Centurion have completely stopped paying attention to the general road rules, and common courtesy has gone out of the window long ago.

Thank God that you're okay!

I've gotten into the habit never to stop in the centre of the lane because of people not stopping for red lights.

Exactly, it's happening everywhere! My boet spotted this in rush hour traffic in Cape Town.

Glad youre ok. :thumleft:

Bikers need to think for the cages as well it seems. In this case though it seems there was nothing you could do, last thing you expect is to be rear ended while waiting at a red light.

Get back on the horse! :thumleft:

Glad you weren't hurt. My biggest fear on the bike is being tail ended and I've had a few close shaves in the last couple of years. Too many idiots on the roads.
Did you stop in the centre of the lane? One lane or two?

Die standaard reaksie is: F***off! - jy hoef dit nie eers te hoor nie - sien dit telkens op die lippe vorm.

Wat het gebeur dat mense hulself die reg toe eien om ander padgebruikers se veiligheid in gevaar te stel?
BoosterPlug, LED Spots, Tool Tubes, RustStop, Kappa Screens, Top boxes, Tank Bags, ATG Gear - whatever works for me.

Good to hear that you are OK.

Going to work and back daily is like running the gauntlet or "bakoond" as in the army days, people in cars are oblivious to their surrounds and if I see someone BBming, I tap on their window, the reations are amazing/amuzing. This morning there was a chick typing on her Ipad while she was talking on her cell, driving with her knees......

Get the guys to check your cylinder head where the exhaust is attached for cracks and make sure the holding studs aren't damaged.

Take care, ride aware, and may that be the last prang.
