Zanzibar ?? Pretoria Aug 07 Part 3
« on: September 05, 2007, 07:45:04 am »
Day 4 ?? 10 Aug
Dolf had made some enquiries about his tyre at local dealers, but yet again ended up with empty hands and settled for the option to put some Fugit in the tyre. The rush hour traffic had us going mad, but we somehow made it out of Dar in one piece.

It was time to hit the open road and after a good 2 hours ride we pulled into Chalinze for lunch.

Real organic African food

On the road again ...........

The A7 road took us to the Mikumi Game Reserve were we booked into the Kikoboga Lodge (+255 784 475655) for the night.

Wilddogs of Mikumi

The feeling of the place was one from the ??Out of Africa? theme with zebra??s and elephants around the bungalows.

After a good night??s rest, we saddled our horses and met these 2 lads from SA at the entrance. They are traveling by bicycle from Morocco to Cape Town.

I was now starting more to relax and taking in the beauties of African landscape. The road took us through some beautiful  mountains and we came across 2 hardcore adventure bikers from Spain. That was going to be the last bikers that we are to come across in a long time.

After traversing our way between some treacherous potholes for most of the way, we made it to Mbeya and booked  into the Utengule Country Lodge on a coffee plantation farm.

This turned out to be a real oasis in the middle  of nowhere. We quickly befriended the other guest (2 SA chopper pilots working for a company that is doing air surveys for mining companies and a beautiful female doctor friend) and got into some serious beer tasting.

Dolf and I were crowned as the unofficial Utengule Pool Champions for the evening while Bernard (chopper pilot) played Tom Cruise in Cocktails. The owner had to eventually throw us out or we would have emptied his bar. That night one of the chopper pilots won the lottery.
