I am considering get myself a bike to play with offroad and was looking around on the internet to import new instead of buying locally. I corresponded with this company in Indonesia "INDO YAMAHA FIRM" and they quote a price of USD1,960 + USD770 for a new 2007 Yamaha Yz450f. Now with your 14% VAT and 5% tax (< 800cc) it roughly comes around to R23528, obviously the shipping agents will be able to give one a more correct figure but it just seems extremely low. The nice thing is you don't need an import permit on a new bike and if I buy an off-road I am definetely not going to register it either. I was wondering what your guys think of this price and if I am maybe missing something. Below part of mail received.
