Nice one.  Once you get the hang of the KDX try out a newish ('08 and younger) KTM 200 for some real fun!
On the oil front each bike model has a specification.  Look it up and stick with it.  Do not confuse too much smoke or spooge with oil mixture, its typically the jetting.   Oooh yes a can of worms potentially right there.  But also know this, the KDX200 is almost indestructible.  Fantastic bike to get started on.

Congrats M, stunning little bike  :thumleft:

Listen closely to what the guys are saying about oil mixtures, excellent advice given. And just one more thing, change the engine oil at least once between service intervals, this will also look after the motor.

but I always say "oil is cheap, motors are expensive".

It's a 2 stroke there is no engine oil apart from what is mixed in the fuel  :lamer:

Ah you said it, they have gearbox and clutch oil, but not engine oil  :deal:

Sorry I did not mean to offend anybody, beers on me for all those i offended  :)

On the topic of oil: I think I got the 2stroke oil down, help me if I'm wrong, but I will likely mix a slightly leaner mix since I will almost
never run at high reffs and not for any period of time with that. 40:1 works out to 250ml on 10liter. Can I go 250ml on 11liter?

When it comes to the "transmission" oil I'm clueless... Do I put in 80W90 gearbox oil in same as in HPN 663's gearbox?
Somebody said I may use Castrol Activa 10W40 but I get confused when I see 2T oils because I can't tell if it is for the
petrol mix or for the gearbox???

250ml on 10liter is 40:1
I run 200ml on 10liter which is 50:1, but seldom do we get out of second gear, slower technical stuff.
225ml on 10liter is 45:1 very close to 250ml on 11liter 44:1

See, the 10liter can/container I use can actually take almost 11liter if I fill it to the brim. Thats why I want to put 250ml to 11 litres...
I take this will not be a mistake for my riding style. I also like to ride slow technical stuff.  :)

Check this out...

I looked on e-dirt and found this topic:  http://www.e-dirt.co.za/site/forum_posts.asp?TID=43895&title=kdx-200-transmission-oil

One guy says: "Castrol 20w 50 , perfect ;) used it for years and no issues what so ever . Changed oil between 4 to 6 rides depending on swimming experiences .."
If that is the case then it suits me. I've got about 8 litres of GTX 20W50 left from my KLR oil-o-holic days.

One guy says: "Castrol 20w 50 , perfect ;) used it for years and no issues what so ever .

Love it when people do and say that.  As if they have done a scientific evaluation of the engine comparing different oils.
The KDX manual says SAE 10W-40

Edit: But then again the manual also says 32:1 engine oil mix.
