FLATOUT and I decided in spite of the rain on Saturday to ride to Oasis for the night and met at the N1 One Stop for a quick cup of coffee and a plan of which route we should take.
Thanks to the rainy conditions we took the chicken route via Wellington and Hermon to Ceres where we topped up with fuel and another cup of coffee to warm the hands, which by this time were frozen to the grips.
By mid morning the sky was blue and we quickly headed for Tankwa Farm stall.
Here we lazed around in the sun enjoying conversation with the owners plus two other riders who were headed for Middlepos.
Yet another cup of coffee downed and we rode katbakkies stopping at the old ruins for a photoshoot where again we met two riders both mounted on magnificent Africa Twins out for a day ride.
With the weather now extremely clear and pleasant the ride to Oasis was an easy doddle and by 2pm we rode in to met by Gerritt and Chantall and a great Oasis lunch.
Later in the afternoon the crowd began to gather as two groups of riders, The Harley Club, all now riding offroad bikes, and a group of farmers and companions from the Caledon area roared in.
The sun soon disappeared, the cold started to bite and we all survived thanks to a great fire and the chance to watch a great Sharks versus Cheetahs game followed by a lack lustre Stormers, Waratahs game.
Fortunately the Stormers won and the party continued.
And then not to be missed Chantal cooked up another magnificent meal.
After a cold but comfortable night breakfast was served in the bright sun and slowly the crowd started on their various ways.
Sakkie and I returned via Algeria but both agreed the Algeria, Sanddrif road is not in the best condition. Even the KTM riders said it felt as if their from tyres had punctures.
At present one has to ride it aggressively and best standing. The front is all over the pace thanks to the marbles on the road.
At Citrusdal we refueled and after a quick milkshake at Kardosie headed home on the tar and into another Cape Storm.
From Malmesbury to cape Town it was like travelling in the middle of the night.
Thanks to Sakkie and the owners of Tankwa farmstall and Gerrit and Chantal we had another great weekend.
