690 Rear aux tank
« on: May 25, 2012, 01:08:05 pm »
Ok so i have being searching for a while now , trying to find most practical and economical option.

These tanks from RR seem to be best option, i believe the first few were not as robust.

Alfie Quoted me almost R5K to supply and fit, but i am sure i can get them landed for about R3K and fit myself.

Any commnets, anyone with experience or using these tanks?

777 , I guess we are all in the same boat here. I bought a 690 to have a nice light bike to be able to do more technical rides. I have a GS1200 as well which is my dirt tourer.

I specifically have forced myself to not try and make the 690 into a long distance tourer , but still beleive I need to carry enough fuel to do 250 t0 300km's .

I have looked at all the options and have decided to go the rotopax route which wild@heart in Cape Town sell. I have fitted a set of Touratech pannier frames to the bike which look quite cool and act as a bit of a crash bar system as well  .I have then cut a 3mm aluminium plate to fit inside the frames and mounted it using d clamps to this I will fit the rotopax on one side . If I do a long trip I could fit one on either side and fit wolfman packs over them to carry luggage.

Rotopax come in different sizes 3.8 liters ,6.65 liters , or 7.6 liters.  I think I will end up buying the 6.65 liter one as that will comfortably give me 330 km's with 2 liters in reserve. The nice thing about this system is you only fit it when doing a long ride with no fuel stops available.

Unfortunatly I am PC challanged and battle to load photos but have a look on the wild@heart website.

Hi Guys ...

If you want the Rally Raid rear tank, they are very good and can courier stuff to SA within a week, it is dead easy to fit, but you would need to buy the fuel pump adapter separately if you haven't got their front tanks fitted. I use one on my 690 in SA and work very well and works quite nicely with the contours of the bike.

Ginga Ninja from Port Alfred has this tank on his 690. Have done couple of rides with him. Check with Edgy but I think that he is not wild about the tank. Can't remember why.
It's a friggin' motorcycle, it's not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The windnoise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you scared every now and then. Suck it up. -- Scary Gary Mc

Not dropped the bike yet, but it's quite streamlined with the bike and seems very robust to me.
