Looks like the fire started in that area, looks like most damage in the middle of the bike.

Very sorry about your bad luck, I kinda know how you feel...

As far as insurance goes - 2 years ago returning from mighty men 2010 I found my trailer burnt out  :eek7:

One of my gardners cleaned a braaiplace and threw the ash on the trailer - it light the leaves already on - it lit the belting around the sides - it burned the trailer....

You should have seen the wording on the insurance form  :spitcoffee:

Good luck  :thumleft:

he's 'traumatised'.
the good news is that the albatros has been removed from your neck.
rejoice.
i'd go outside and piss on the ground next to that bmw (wouldn't even piss on it to put the fire out) - i loathed mine...
then,  certainly,  a ktm - mine has been one of my best buys ever.

In the eyes of the insurance, yes, if the spots have not been wired up proffesionally (which you will have to prove) then they could have caused the fire, or any other non standard electrical accessory.

Im playing devils advocate here and hope for your sake that Im wrong, but my experience with insurance companies is that YOU get shafted (not a BMW pun  ). By not paying out, they make money and stay in business.

If you worried about that, you are probably with Outsurance, and then you have a reason to worry

I've posted some new photos showing a hole in the bottom crankase!

The square hole? the 1150 has some cast in square recesses like that difficult to assess 8)

The assessor has been to see it. He took a few photos and said it's a write off. Apparently a salvage company will collect it.

Here is a few more pics.
