1983 XR500R. What size rear tire to buy? Original is 5.10-17. Current tire is 120/90-17. My research suggests that a 130/80-17 would be the correct size to match 5.10-17?
I currently have a Bridgestone Trail Wing enduro type tire on the front. Would like something similar on the rear.
I would...
Another kitchen chopping board sacrificed to make a chain slider 😆 I wonder why you can get just about any part for a 1983 XR500R except for the chain slider
Here she is. Got her recently. Still work in process but runs well after I rebuilt the carbs.
The black trim on the side covers should off course be yellow, but I painted them black because I prefer it.
Hi, what are the correct sprocket sizes for a 1983 XR500Re? Previous owner put a small sprocket on the rear and I'd like to change it back to original. I have got the Clymer workshop manual but cannot find sprocket sizes in there.

Hello
I am recommissioning an old XR500R, the twin carb model. It appears that the air filter is no longer available. What do you guys do for air filters? Someone mentioned to me that one can modify the XR600 filter to fit?
Would appreciate any help or advice on this.

I experienced the exact same problem when I first bought my R80GS, and also spent hours going over the circuit before I found that the connector block was giving problems. Cleaning it solved the problem, but it still occasionally fails. I think the answer is to remove it and replace it with...
Thank you for all the comments and welcomes!
I agree with the general sentiment. This bike is far from original so I have a free ticket to modify it to suite my style and requirements.
I have already drafted a mile long wish list :ricky:

This is a good question. I have a few old cars, and according to the people in the know LRP is rubbish. I use a lead additive with unleaded fuel in all my old engines, including the old bikes. Looking forward to other opinions.
