Eikeboom, you are correct. One of the two fasteners/ clip thingys on the swingarm is broken. This allowed for the line to move across to the side where it came into contact with the exhaust. All the other reasons you mentioned are in order.

Yip! chain and sprockets is klaar. The slight vibration may also be caused by this. My chain and sprockets are also finished so I can relate a similar feeling. Start there for cost sake.
I also have an after market exhaust (end can and pipe that connects just after the 2 header pipes join) and a while ago started to hear a strange sound too. I removed the exhaust and found that it was a small plate vibrating, it sits right at the connecting point of the two header pipes. not...
Cant recall getting better fuel economy after changing the zorst. Before I changed it, mine developed a flat spot at 110kmh so I changed the jetting to 110 jets and that made a big difference to both midrange and fuel economy.
