So I've decided to take the tyre off again and do a proper job.
I also noticed that the rim strip is in bad shape, can I use duck tape or insulation...

I haven't real noticed a "notch" in the steering arc, will definitely look out for that on my next ride.
Also, the handling felt pretty solid before I had to repair the flat tyres.
To add some context:
My from rim has a slight deformity probably...

Well I'm not really worry about insurance as I don't have any yet. Which is probably a bad idea, and I topic for a topic for another discussion.
I'm more worried about the law, as in being denied entry to the country or being pulled over and asked to produce a licence.
I would like to do a Lesotho trip in the near future and also some of our neighbouring countries later on.
However, I've only got a learners licence at the moment.
Can I ride in Lesotho with only a South African learners licence? What about Namibia and Botswana?
I've recently acquired a 2008 KLR and am looking to replace the flimsy homemade bash plate mounted by the previous owner.
So where can I find a good bash plate for my bike?
I'm in the Pretoria area if that is of any relevance.
