Just to expand the - why not a road bike question. Yes it could be done on a road bike but currently the xt is my only bike capable of doing it. I wanted a bike that could go trail riding, was cheap to buy, very good on fuel, and not too big or heavy for the daily commute into work, a 52 mile...
Xt660z is my do everything bike. Its my first trip there and there are quite strict rules on where you can ride plus with my wife on board its not feasible to go on the dirt, not with road bias tyres anyway.
This trip wasn't about dirt riding as it was our holiday - not mine alone.

Been to the IOM plenty of times. On sportsbikes first but then on dirt bikes after a bit of a brake.
