Thanks Bundu, I think the battery must be toast then. When running and riding the voltage obviously does fluctuate getting to a max of about 13.5v but drops below 12v and on the lowest side even down to about 10v Sent from my ALE-L02 using Tapatalk

I have an aftermarket dash on my 2003 Dakar that has a function measuring voltage. i saw the battery light come on the other day and checked voltage and it was sitting below 12v but did pick up again to around 13.5v.. i have been keeping an eye on it and the voltage has definately been dropping...

hmmmmm .... maybe out of my comfort zone for the trip .... but looks like a hellofalot of fun.

I think a bit more on the easy-going side as I will have a pillion + luggage.  Can you give me and indication of what you mean by fairly technical?

Tempting Stu ... But we would probably still be heading down the KZN in March and we will be doing some of those routes (including Montantsa and clarens area).  Don't really want to do similar routes so close together.

So the first day of riding is from Joburg to Ficksburg"ish" area.  Any recommended routes for that stretch? Points of interest, nice places to stop?

On a side note ... what sizes are you running?  I have a 90/90/21 and 150/70/17.
