Return of the small DS bikes

The Yamaha WR250R has 10 000Km service intervals here in Aus, I agree Yamaha need a Rally version of the WR250R it is a Great Bike!

Return of the small DS bikes

It seems to me that most of the guys that are not too thrilled with the small DS bikes are from the Reef, at your altitude with approximately 17% power loss a 250 is pretty pap to say the least plus your terrain is far more open. The small DS bikes make far more sense in Natal where it is tight...

Watch "Test Yamaha WR250R Adventure Review Part 1 of 2" on YouTube

I don't know if the WR250R is available in SA now but it does have a good reputation as being the best 250 "Adventure" bike around. The big plus over the F is that it has a long service interval 10000Km's, much bigger sump and it is a counter balanced motor so it is very smooth compared to the...

    Why not a Puzey

In tight and technical stuff horsepower is not really an issue, and if you are casually cruising around on dirt roads hp is also not really an issue. With good preperation (lots of loctite and make sure everything is greased and lubed correctly) and good maintainence they will probably be ok as...

Take bike to Australia or not ?

Also when checking prices in Aus, check the Ride Away or Drive Away price for that State. And whether it has 6 or 12 Months Rego (Licence) with it. I haven't checked Bike rego's recently but just renewed our 4 cylinder Car and with CTP ( Compulsory Third Party ) was about A$780.00 for 12 Months...

Take bike to Australia or not ?

Also depends on which State you end up in, not all States have the same rules for this sort of thing. I think there are some posts about this on ADV Rider, in the Aussie section.

    New "farmbike" - XR150L

Not sure if you are getting this in SA, but the new Kawasaki KLX150L here in Aus looks a bit nicer than the Honda with a 21 inch front wheel. https://www.kawasaki.com.au/motorcycles/offroad/2014-klx150l

    KTM 250/300 freeride ?

I think that a lot of people don't understand the Freerides and see them as beginers bikes! Yes they are good bikes to learn on, but they can also be a weapon in a good riders hands, particularly in tight technical conditions ( Think tough Natal WFO Enduro ) a great bike for Natal in my opinion...

    The Original Adventure Bike?

I think any bike can be an Adventure, you don't have to ride a thousand kays a day to have an adventure on a bike. A days ride in really rugged terrain and getting to the top of a big hill or finding a new waterfall is just as much of an adventure, not everyone can take two or three weeks to...
