The ecu should pick up the octane, but not boost as it requests boost to a set point and timing is also set to a set point.

You'll have to adjust the map and run octane if you increase boost. It not as simple as just adjusting the actuator and drive it.

Are you running stock turbo?

You can't compare it like that. You have to compare it the other way around, disposable income in the USA vs SA. $12000 for that vehicle is dirt cheap if you compare it value wise to a jap scrap in SA.
