How does the XT compare to the TTR? Spec sheets for the more recent XT models show less power - does it have anything else going for it instead?

Assuming then that the WR is not an option, how does the TTR stack up against other roadworthy 250's out there, e.g. Honda Tornado, Kawa KLX, Suzuki DRZ/Djebel etc.?

I mention WR because the overseas model WR250R gets good reviews. It is quite a different bike than the local WR250F. Is a road-legal conversion even possible? I would like to get myself a light, reliable and fuel efficient bike for typical dual sport use, i.e. run errands about town, breakfast...

I notice it has upped the tyre diameters to match that of the 250. Range should be impressive with a 12L tank and fuel injection. I am curious to see what counter-offers the other manufacturers come up with, there seems to be a revival in interest in the smaller displacement market.

My next question then - what about the XR 400? Weighs the least of the lot but I cannot find anything in the classifieds right now. How much do they normally sell for 2nd hand? How does the fuel consumption compare to the 250?

They seem widely available in the classifieds these days, more so than the 250 Tornado. Apart from a couple of posts in the 125 thread, not much real-world info is available. So, now that the local market has had time to farkle and dissect a few samples, what is the verdict? Is it better...

I used to get tank-slap with the stock setup when going at certain speeds over rough patches in the gravel. After fitting raisers (i.e. shorter dog bones), I have never had another tank slap. I know it seems counter-intuitive, and I don't know enough about bike dynamics to try to explain it...

I had my bike raised by putting in shorter dog-bone links. The extra ground clearance causes the bike to lean over further and put much more weight on the side stand than normal, but has not caused any issues yet.

Will it still be possible to "flash" brights using the trigger in front as opposed to actually switching over to brights?
