    CRF300 Rally thread

Got a route from someone on the forum, loaded it on the GPS and went for a ride. Had no clue where I was going or what the roads were going to be like. (I did remember to check fuel this time). Nice open dirt roads, some single-track, some sketchy buildings in the middle of nowhere, some...

    Learners license

Surprised at how many people ride on repeat learners. I'm glad to see I'm not the only. Have a couple of months left on the current learners. Last learners was on tablet which I found it a bit more tricky. Have been planning to do full license this year. Would like to do at least one proper...

    CRF300 Rally thread

Wasn't on reserve yet, but still getting used to the range. It was more a matter of knowing how far I could go BEFORE reserve, but based on how much it took to fill up, I had quite a bit to go before hitting reserve. If I had done trip reset on the last fill-up I would've been less concerned.

    CRF300 Rally thread

Thanks for all the replies re the fuel gauge/usage. Bad planning for my ride on Sat, self-inflicted, didn't check fuel gauge when I left home, and also forgot to reset my trip meter on last fill-up. Was quite a way out of town and rode about 40 or 50km after it hit one bar. On fill-up it only...

    CRF300 Rally thread

According to my book the 300 services are only at 1000, 12000, 24000... intervals. Edit: That's according to the maintenance schedule. I will be doing more frequent air filter and oil services.

Any estimate of how far one can still go when it hits one bar on the fuel guage? Cut my planned trip a bit short today, forgot to check fuel before I left, and didn't want to push my luck. :)

    Cardo (or other comms) question

Thanks, but I ended up ordering a Cardo.

Maybe I shouldn't refer to it as the US version, not sure how they decide who gets which spec. Probably mostly cosmetic, but we get a similar L to the US and Europe, but the L in Aus looks a lot more like the 450 with LED lights and indicators. Looks quite a bit different. With the Rally we get...

    CRF300 Rally thread

Was searching for some accessories and I saw the price for the 300 L and Rally is up by a grand or two now. I see there's some fotos of the 2024 Rally on SA sites with the big non-LED indicators. Is SA now going to get the "US version", or would that just be the fotos they're using? The small...

Interesting, thanks. Haven't decided yet, but Flying Brick offers 20mm and 30mm lowered pegs as far as I remember.

    CRF300 Rally thread

Looks like a nice ride. I fitted 30mm bar risers last week. Had to "play" a bit with some of the cables, no problems. Much better, but I am wondering whether "offset" risers moving the bars further away might have been a better option. Still considering an extra 10 or 20 mm, but if I do that...

    Stolen bike license

Doesn't help you with your question, but I have laminated color copy on the bike. Also have the original that I carry with me in case someone notices or questions the copy at a stop. Hasn't been needed yet.

    Body Armor advice needed

I've been considering some body armor for a while. After this weekend's ride, and taking an hour yesterday washing red dust out of my adventure jacket, I'm considering it even more. I'm figuring at the speeds I ride dirt, the body armor with a MX shirt should be enough upper body protection...

    Wilddogs on ARR Podcast

The first mistake I didn't even pick up. As for the second thing he got wrong; I figured that he just hasn't spent enough time here.

Sorted Entry-level Cardo (or something similar)

Good point on the battery, thanks.

Sorted Entry-level Cardo (or something similar)

I need something to take and make phone calls on the bike. Audio quality doesn't have to be that good. Rider to rider and music not important. As long as I can connect it to my Garmin and get some directions, and more importantly take and make phone calls without having to get to my phone and...

    Cardo (or other comms) question

Ride last night went later than I expected, and wanted to make a quick call to the wife. Too much of a mission. Stop, get to my phone, remove gloves and helmet, and 30 seconds later put phone away, helmet and wet gloves back on. I'm looking at getting a Cardo to make it simpler. A secondary...

    CRF300 Rally thread

Thanks @TVB. That's what I paid for the service. In hind-sight, I regret not looking into it a bit more and bringing my own oil, but I'll have a 6000km service done and use "quality" oil from that point on.

    Wilddogs on ARR Podcast

I'm listening to the latest episode of Adventure Rider Radio podcast now (E7 - 8 March). As a South African, not the most interesting episode, but Wilddog forum got a mention. (y)
