I would suggest that you replace the flimsy plastic hand guards with something more robust. You'll thank me later

A very generous offer Chris. I had a similar experience when fitting my PSP bash plate, the alignment of the rear holes were out significantly. To remedy the problem, I bent the rear mounting bracket forward about 45 degrees. Problem solved
