Hey Battlestar, I used to ride 16/41 on my Fugly.  Revs came down very low and the bike cruised like a dream.  Lost a bit of power, and riding at 60km/h in 5th is not so good, but otherwise, I rather liked this ration for Gauteng commutes.

Just getting up to 54000km on my klr and she just keeps getting better by the day.  No interest in selling it, so the stigma passed me by. 😎
