Why I'll NEVER rent from Motorrad Executive Rentals-Johannesburg again

This is the first time I ever rented a bike for a trip. But for 3 1/2 weeks it wasn't worth the shipping cost and carnet hassle. Well, in hind site ...... Or are you referring to my previous communications? I hope I patched that up.

Why I'll NEVER rent from Motorrad Executive Rentals-Johannesburg again

I'm not getting the lawyer. He is my friends friend. I never met him before getting to Africa. But I wouldn't want to get between him and his money. But I would spend big money for a lawyer too before I would let someone cheat me. And win or lose, it's money out of their pockets too.

Why I'll NEVER rent from Motorrad Executive Rentals-Johannesburg again

I posted my complaint on a lot of forums that I use regularly. I found and posted on BMWmotorcycleclubcape. I found this forum and thought it would be another good place for viewers looking to rent. Andrew got a response from Motorrad Executive Rentals. I appreciate getting the response from the...

Why I'll NEVER rent from Motorrad Executive Rentals-Johannesburg again

Three of us rented Sertao 650 BMW's from Motorrad Executive Rentals in Johannesburg from February 5-29 of 2016. The rentals were paid for about a month before we got there. They put a $1610 hold on each of our credit cards before we took possession. We had the bikes insured. But this was the...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

My wife doesn't like travelling abroad too much. But she said she would put Africa somewhere, not high, on her bucket list. I hope I stimulated a little interest on the ADVrider forum. But it seems more focused on North and South America. The Horizons Unlimited seems more world focused. I get a...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I have been home in the USA for a week now. I had a great trip. I do my ride reports on ADVrider-Doogle there also. But Wilddog  inmates gave me a lot of helpful info. I thought I would post some info from my trip here. First-my mileage and daily end points: DATE- ODO-DIFF- MILES- TOTAL  From...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

Thanks to all for the great responses. I will share these with my partners. I have not met the third rider of our group. He's from Germany. I am just trying to gather as much info as I can so we will be prepared which ever route we take. I read Zim does not have their own official currency as...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I only recognize half of these places. The places I put on my list of possible interest were from forums and Google's "must see". I will look at these that you mention. I know we won't stay in SA. Hot or not, Vic Falls,Chobe NP,Great Zimbabwe will be seen.

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I will be in Johannesburg in 2 weeks. I am coming with 2 others for 3 weeks. We have rented BMW Sertaos to ride and explore. We have no set route. I made a list of things to possibly see in S.A.,Namibia,Botswana, Zimbabwe. I know 3 weeks is not enough time to see everything on my list. But we...

Then drink beer  hope you enjoy your time in SA , have fun and be safe ! Beer?  Ahhh    The true reason for coming to Southern Africa. I have had a beer in 61 countries. And always looking to expand my beer count. I hope SA has some good local beers. Are craft beers becoming popular...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I had no knowledge of or interest in South America before I went. I had no interest in Africa at all. I went to a travel doctor before riding South America. The shots and warnings were plentiful. Some of the side notes showed what was needed for Africa. And I thought, why would anyone ever go...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

Ahh sorry, I was a bit dumb and missed the bike reference and Somalia sarcasm in the first post. The thing is, you can stick to tar, but many good places here are accessible only on dirt - mostly very good gravel though. I think as an 'introductory trip' I would start in Cape Town and do a bit...

    Karoo Biking Rental

Hey Doogle You coming down the Eastern Cape way? If so give me a shout ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Will do. We don't have any route set yet. Probably meet this week and discuss what we want to see. Then see how much we can cram in to 3 weeks. I've...

    Karoo Biking Rental

I've been on forums that don't allow changing the title. I see this forum does allow it,and I did. After all the inmates here allowed me to "see the light" on address location, I did send another email to Jurgen/Karoo several days ago.  I told him where I looked for the address and some misses I...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I have ridden many miles of "wrong side" roads. 2 wheels are easy. 4 wheels are less so.

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

I don't know what the process is in SA. (Sales tax or VAT are straight loss.)  But it might require a day or 2 for title and insurance work.Or more if arriving on a weekend or holiday. Then when the trip is over, the bike would probably need to be left with a dealer to sell. Then you are at the...

3 weeks to ride in southern Africa

Yes, I read both of their RR's. I've done a lot of sampler tours. I love it. There are so many great places to "sample" that it makes it hard to return for a second tour. Even if it is good. The excitement of going somewhere I've not been is always my preference.

Now that I have been given a thorough lesson about address locations, I guess riding through southern Africa should be easy.
