As an owner of a GS650 I can say it is ok on tar or dirt roads but if you are going to take it off-road then you will struggle if off-road really means rocks.

I recently bought a 690 at UB Leisure, they obviously want to push volume but they were friendly and the bike is exactly what they said it was. No complaint.
