Thanks TT! I've consulted the Haynes manual, and read about the "open loop" catalytic converter.  I cant find any reputable mechanic to work on the bike on this short notice.  (We are leaving tomorrow on a 12 day trip.)  I'm just going to clean the air filter, carbs, tank and fuel line, and...

If you compare the KLR to the TA, I owned both bikes!  En het altwee behoorlik gery.  The TA is a much better bike in every way.  Way better!!  ....except fuel economy....  My TA is on 40 000+km and rides like a new bike with no issues at all.  I see there is a couple of TA's on the TA thread...
