    KLR 650 Info

Its all been said.  I have 46 000km's on the clock and LOVE my KLR.  2008 shape.  Longest 2 up was 5 400km trip.  400km's a day is okay.  A hard day is 650km and more, not to be done to often.  Then, the two of us weighs a combined less than 140kg.  For long distance cruising the best 'modd'...

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

Cracklin, sorry, my mistake.  You are correct I was refunded the full amount for the crash bars. I also bought heated handle grips at the same time (on the same invoice).  Must say about the heated grips they work like a charm.  Thx

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

How time flies. Thanks to those who acted in the original spirit of this forum with positive, open minded and problem solving feedback The offending crash bars were sent back to the supplier.  I was refunded by them, which is great.  They subtracted what they felt was fair usage, which is...

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

Le Cap I have a new Eagle doo in which you installed about 7 000k's ago.  You furthermore installed a temporary Eagle spring earlier as we were waiting for the doo's to arive.  So I think the lever should be okay and I hoped that the chain would be 'saved' by the shorter spring before that.  The...

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

I have taken the crash bars off and will be sending them back to the supplier.  I will rather run the risk of radiator damage in case of a fall to the left than be pissed off at the vibration every time I get to work or get back home in the afternoon. BUT now the bike vibrates on its own.  Yea...

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

Another update: Talked a mechanical engineer at work about the vibrations.  Ill spare the details but in short his prognosis was that something in the way the bike operates creates just the right frequency to get the bars to vibrate.  If I could change the weight of the bars that will change...

    KLR 2008 vibrating crash bars

Update : Took the crash bars off my bike last night.  Was a good thing, was missing three of the small nuts holding some of the plastic together.  THIS IS NOT something I can get used to.  I love my bike and cant accept that its okay that SW Motech's crash bars will destroy it. Anyway the...

Guys, thanks for all the replies.  Will get in there with some rubber washers and more lock tight. I can get used to some vibarions, but at times it feels unsafe.  Quite scarey. Will let know if my plans work.

    Bike Intercom

Ill have to go check the make I got, but apart from the heated grips its the best 'add on' I have ever bought for the bike. Works like a charm.  Got it from Track Mac in Bellivlle.  Was about R 1200 per helmet.  Will add the name some time later. Thing about being audable above 120km/h is...

    Honda XLR 250

Me and Side-Chick have one.  Was okay, but would cut out when hot.  Also quite a bit of oil in the Xhst gasses.  I did not have the time to try and sort it out.  We took it to the bike worksop across the road.  They claimed problem is wear and tear on the barrel.  Apparantly when it got hot to...

    Bikers with DUH!! cager mentality

Im normally not angry enough to vent on a public forum but hey this morning its different. I drive the N1 into Cape Town daily.  Its great to be able to still move along while all the cages are waiting for time to pass.  I drive at my pace.  Often someone faster than me comes along and when I...

    Namibia 2up on a KLR - Advice?

Also - this is the last one for now - some clever ppl may tell you a hard plastic topbox won't work off road - we have done many other gravel roads - to Verneukpan - and the 4x4 route (Eselsdbank) from Wupperthal to Ceres with the same setup. Never had any problems with the hard plastic topbox...

    Namibia 2up on a KLR - Advice?

Side-Chick say I MUST tell you that a hard top box on the back is great for some back support for the pillion.  Make sure there is some padding between the box and her back though.
