It could be the tyres but I suspect you have to much pre-load on the rear shock or not enough on the forks. I would try reducing the pre-load on the shock. if that does not help get some pre-load spacers make for the forks.

I have got a set of after-market progressive springs for a xt600e. The xt has also got 41mm forks so they should fit. By my calculations they should give you 265mm of travel. The free length is about 640mm. They are almost new with less than 500km done with them installed.
