Older DR 600/650 thread (Pre mid 90's)

Check yr carb is a 12EF // 411 , ID on left side For sea level : = You should have a 6F10 needle 691-y2 nozzle and 137.5 main jet Pilot should be 52.5 Pilot Air is a 1.3 stock but 1.4 is better and I wish I had a 1.5 because that would be better still , the stock setup (1.3) is prone to...

Older DR 600/650 thread (Pre mid 90's)

Hey shot on getting that solid oldtimer ! I'd start with a complete carb take-down. I've restored many old thumpers and the carb is INEVITABLY going to be a problem. How is the compression ? The state of the air filter ? If it's got a well maintained air filter you'll be in luck. Most old...

    Backsliding to low tech !!!

I met a wee girl called Yuki , ALONE , deep in Kaokoland near the Angolan Border.  Her bike had a headlight grill which, on close inspection, was where she stored her clothes pegs. Her bags were the same bags the Tibetan's use when travelling by Yak , held by two wooden rings that line up with...

1991 DR 650 Dakar to the Amageza - Prep Thread

Oh hell. Thats bad. All that gear might have caused a mass-moment of inertia around the column axis ? I you can't flex the rear wheel relative to the subframe it can't be that .... You'll have to do a benchmark run, clean,  and a loaded up run, over the same bit of rough, to figure this one out ?

I've just done my fork seals , in the bag. Hate that job. Ready to roll again. I said it before and I'll say it again , I am continually surprised how well these oldtimers GO ! At 5000 rpm it smooths out and gets angry ...and keeps getting angry...... I ride mine like I HATE it , like I'm...

I'd be careful of putting head torches close to your face. The light could attract every airborne gogga for miles , you could end up with a visor load of mayonnaise ! That's more what the red lights are for , illumination without the bugs. And yes, night vision. Most insects head for white...
